“We could disappear with the money now and I’ll take you through your heat.”

I shake my head. “I made a deal.”

He’s silent for a moment as he contemplates my choice. It’s like he heard my thoughts.

“Walker...” He pauses for another moment while blinking his eyes tightly. “Your godfather. Your dad’s best friend? He’s the professor’s pack mate?”

I nod as my teeth dig into my bottom lip.

“He thinks you’re his, doesn’t he? But you’re not Ella. You are mine.”

“Jake.”

“No, Eleanor Darling. I waited for you. I gave up everything for you. I knew you were my omega, but I never pushed you. You’re mine.”

It’s the first time that he’s been so dominant. Normally, he holds back his alpha. Not today, it appears.

I stroll to him and wrap my arms around his waist. “I’ll always be yours, but this deal sets us for life, Jake. Five days and we’re rich.”

A pain slashes across my lower abdomen. I groan as I double over.

Jake tenses, concern flashing in his eyes as he steadies me with a firm grip on my shoulders. “Ella, what is it? Are you okay? What happened?”

“It’s a heat contraction... they’ve been on and off all day and they’re getting worse,” I murmur, gasping for a breath as another wave of pain washes over me. “It hurts... so much... I need it to go away.”

He looks at me, fire in his eyes. Now, his alpha side is fully unleashed. “If you’re sure about this. I’ll take you to them. I’ll call the professor and let him know what’s going on. They might have to come here. It’s too risky for you to go there in this state.”

“You can’t call him,” I interrupt, squeezing my eyes shut as another contraction wracks my body. “We have to stick to the deal. We need to go to them.”

Jake hesitates for a moment before he groans. “Is your bag ready?”

I nod. “It’s by the door.”

“Let me put everything in the car. Don’t leave the house. I don’t want your perfume attracting any alphas who may be around.”

“Okay.”

“Damn, I don’t have time for a shower.”

“You smell gorgeous,” I groan.

He smiles. “Do I?”

I nod as he rushes away.

I wait for Jake to come and he picks me up like I weigh nothing at all, and presses a sweet kiss on my lips. I wrap my legs around his waist.

“I love you, Ella. Regardless of what happens over the next five days, you’re mine. Not Walker’s or the professor’s. Mine.”

“I am.”

The creak of the door opening breaks the quiet of the room, followed by the rhythmic thud of Jake’s footsteps as he rushes out of the apartment, across the parking lot and to his car.

As he carefully guides me into the car, his touch is gentle, but I can’t help but wince from the shooting pains coursing through my body. Another tear slices across my stomach. I gasp as I try to catch my breath.

“It’ll only take ten minutes to drive there.”

I nod as he closes the door to this old car. The hinges squeak as the door locks me inside.
