I press the BlueTooth button on my steering wheel and wait for the car to listen to the message from my sister.

“Ah, now it looks perfect. Can you get me a prototype asap? I want to try it.”

I disconnect the call and continue to drive for another five minutes.

I slam the car door before I pull my shorts over my ass. Today is much brighter than the past week. So, I pulled out my summer clothes. A pair of frayed dark blue jean shorts, a pink and yellow tie-dye tank top that shows off my cleavage, and a pair of dark denim ballet flats.

I have a fortune in the bank, but no time for shopping or finding a new apartment for Jake and me. This business is still my priority.

A chill runs down my spine as a sweet berry scent surrounds the air I breathe.

“You have to speak to Gabe,” a deep voice says.

I make a half twist and face Walker, who is wearing a white shirt that clings to his muscular arms and chest. The omega in me can’t deny she finds him irresistible, and I hold back a whine.

He can see it. I know by the lift of one side of his mouth.

It’s unsettling how he can easily read my thoughts and emotions. I cross my arms over my chest. “I don’t have to do anything. My life is fine without him in it.”

“Eleanor!”

I hold my palm to his face. “Don’t Walker. You’re trying to control my life like I need him in it. And I don’t. I only need Jake.”

A flash of defeat replaces the exasperation look on his face. “You need your pack. I’ll give you a few days, but after that, we’re all going to sit down and talk about it. Because Gabe is talking about leaving.”

My omega whines inside, but I hold it back. I hate that I smell Gabe as my mate, and yet I want to kill him.

“Will you do that?” he asks. “Talk when you’re calmer.”

Our eyes clash for a moment before my shoulders sag. “Yes.”

“Who’s that?” Sienna asks when I reach the counter of her coffee shop.

“He’s my godfather.”

She laughs. “And there I was thinking he looked at you like he wanted to…” Our gazes meet for a moment. I arch an eyebrow. “Fuck you.”

“Sienna!” I hiss.

I didn’t expect her to go that far.

“I would,” she says.

I roll my eyes, trying to ignore her teasing. “Don’t you have a customer waiting?”

She shrugs, smirking. “Nah, they’re taking their time trying to decide what to eat. Now, tell me the story. I’m not blind.”

Taking a deep breath, I decide to share a part of my life that I’ve kept hidden. “He wants me in his pack.”

“As their omega?” Sienna pours a cup of coffee and hands it to me. I open my purse to pay.

“It’s on me.”

“Thanks.”

I glance right and see a man scanning the bakery shelf. He turns to me and smiles.

I give him a smile back.
