I climbed into the car with two strangers in the front seat as Ash went around and put my bag in the trunk, then got into the other back seat.

“I’m Felicity,” the woman said, stretching over her seat to shake my hand as the man in the front seat put his foot on the gas, getting us out of the pickup line.

Felicity cursed and gripped the seat, then smacked the man in the shoulder.

“Damn it, Woodrough,” she grumbled at him, dropping her ass back in the seat.

“Well, sorry, but the cops were yelling. What else was I supposed to do?”

I turned to Ashton, who was smiling in disbelief at the pair.

“My aunt,” he said, motioning to the woman. “And my cousin, Woodrough.”

No wonder he was looking at them with wonder sparkling in his eyes. The man had grown up with no family besides his mom. These two people were like a lifeline back to his heritage.

“It’s nice to meet you,” I told them both.

And honestly, it was.

“Felicity is my dad’s sister. He kept information about her to himself, so I never knew.”

“Did you see him? Your dad?” I asked.

“I saw him, but he’s asleep. Haven’t had the displeasure of talking to him yet.”

I squeezed his hand and frowned.

“It must be bad if you’re here. You’re supposed to be packing and shipping everything to Vegas.”

“You’re moving?” Felicity barged into the conversation.

“Right. He’s pretty bad. The doctor doesn’t think he’ll really recover. His brain waves are off, I guess, and his heart is weak.”

“One more heart attack and kaput,” Woodrough said from the front seat.

Hm, it didn't seem like there was any love lost between them.

“Ok, well, I’m here for whatever you need.”

“I told you I’d be ok,” he told me with amusement lacing his words.

“And I told you, too fucking bad, I’m coming anyway. I’m going to support you whether you want me to or not.”

Ashton laughed, pressing a kiss to my forehead as Felicity gave a giggle.

Then a phone rang.

“Hello,” Felicity said in a rush.

Silence.

“Ok, thank you. We’ll be there as soon as we can,” she responded to the person on the phone, her voice cracking with emotion.

She hung up and Woodrough looked over at who I assumed was his mother.

“It happened? He's dead?”

Felicity nodded slowly, then pressed her face into her hands and sobbed.
