“That’s fine, hun. I’ll have the place cleared out, sold, and I’ll send you the check.”

He shrugged, but didn’t steal his hand away.

“It’s settled,” she agreed, not bothered by his lack of answer.

“When you say someone will do it, you mean we’ll do it,” Woodrough complained.

She hushed him, swatting him on his big bicep then linked her arm through his.

“You two go head home. We’ll take care of everything here. I don’t have the trauma that you do surrounding this place.”

“Thanks,” Ash told her, running his hand over his head. “And sorry again about the Escalade.”

She chuckled.

“Yes, well, maybe I’ll take out the insurance money from the sale price.”

Ash smiled at the woman.

“I always wished that I had family like you, Aunt Felicity.”

She gave the softest smile back to him, then reached up and pinched his cheeks in her hands, which made Ash protest and laugh.

“And we have to make up for lost time! I have…thirty-and-some-odd birthdays to make up for!”

“Fuck off,” he growled, though it was so affectionate that it made my heart warm for him.

Felicity linked her arm back into Woodrouhg’s arm, but did the same with Ash while I held his other hand.

“Good. Expect some presents soon,” she rambled, talking about all the ways she would make up for all their lost years together.

Ash gave me a private look, and the hope brimming in his eyes had tears brimming in mine.

We went straight from the grave to the airport. Felicity and Woodrough dropped us off, leaving us on the curb to get our flights home.

I left almost an hour before he did, but he insisted that he wanted to walk me to my gate. He did, and we sat together while we waited for boarding. When the time came, it felt so fucking wrong to get on that plane without him. I kissed him over and over again, but nothing made it feel ok to go without him.

“Give me a couple more days, and I’ll head back to Vegas. Promise,” he told me, kissing my nose before pushing me toward the gate. “Call me when you land. I’ll land before you.”

That was true. Even though he left after me, he wasn’t traveling nearly as far as I was.

I agreed, and hurried onto the plane before I managed to convince myself to run back to him.

Only a couple more days.

And those days felt like years.

I had to go back to work while he finished packing and sending things home. It was torture.

But eventually, finally, he was heading home. I’d be picking him up from the airport after work, and I was so fucking excited to see him, even though we’d just seen each other seventy-two hours ago. Didn’t matter. It felt like trying to live without a left arm for three days, and I hated every second.

I waited in the pick-up for him, eying the security guard who kept moving people on. I was three seconds away from making another circle when I saw him appear, pulling two big suitcases behind him, another duffel over his shoulder.

I rolled down the window and called out, getting his attention.

When he saw me, he smiled, quickening his step.

Throwing my car into park, I slid out of my seat and hurried to hug him.
