That was probably one of the nicest things anyone had ever said to me.

“Well, we just lied to your dad because of it.”

“Yeah, he wouldn’t understand our friendship.”

Friendship? Was that really what it was? I’d said the same to Tommy earlier, but I wasn’t sure if…

“C’mon, unlock the door!” Tommy called from a dozen feet away.

I quickened my step and let them both into my house.

“We should get some dinner and call Karma over,” Tommy mused as we went through the kitchen to the garage.

“Go ahead,” I agreed, opening the door.

Tommy was already on the phone, calling his wife to pick up dinner on the way over since we hadn’t gotten food at the bar after all.

A hand wrapped around mine as I started through the door toward the car, making me pause.

“Are you?” Freya asked, her blue eyes sparkling from the bright kitchen light above her.

“I’m fine,” I agreed, but she shook her head.

“No, I mean, for real. Your migraine yesterday was no joke. How's your head? Your hip?”

“I’m fine,” I told her, drowning in those twin pools framed in thick, blonde lashes.

“Ok,” she agreed, letting my hand go, but she still didn’t look happy.

Heart thumping a couple times just for her and the care she obviously felt for me, I took one step forward and pressed my palm to her cheek, whispering, “Because of you last night, I’m ok.”

That seemed to satisfy her, but the look of pleased happiness disappeared when Tommy called back out to us.

I lingered, eyes dipping to her lips for a second too long before I left her there and showed Tommy the Firebird. Freya didn’t even come to the garage to look.

Chapter 15

Ashton

“You’re driving, right?” Angelina asked, hip checking me as we closed up for the day on Friday.

Finally, a weekend where I wasn’t working and could just veg and try to catch up on TV or…maybe just sleep.

“Driving where?” I asked, wiping off the set of wrenches I’d been using.

“Don’t you even try!” she said, poking at my chest. “You promised you’d come to Swill Lounge today for karaoke!”

Aw shit…

“Oh, well, I don’t know,” I started trying to back out of it, but she shook her head, pressing her braless tits against my arm.

“Nope. You’re not getting out of it. Freya already knows your coming, and she’s bringing a couple of her friends. It’ll be a taco show with no sausages if you don’t come with us.”

I didn’t even want to dissect that sentence.

“Fine, but let me change and clean up real quick,” I agreed, going to the garage sink to clean off with the special degreasing soap we kept there.

She followed, washing too before disappearing to the ladies room with a backpack over her shoulder.
