I bite my lip. That’s not really up to me. I can’t force the unicorn to allow him to see her. “I will certainly ask.”

My guess is the unicorn won’t have too much of an issue with this. If Paxton smiled at the guy, he’s probably trustworthy. It’s not too often she instantly likes men she’s never seen before. Suppose it helps that this guy is a friend of Kingsley, so he’s starting off with a few points in his favor.

Paxton walks alongside the unicorn over to us. “It’s fine. She says it’s okay.”

Angus’s face goes blank. He stares at the unicorn for almost two minutes without seeming to even breathe. “Oy. She’s magnificent. Tis an honor.”

The unicorn lowers her head at him.

“Is there a room or somewhere she can be comfortable?” asks Paxton.

“Passageways are goin’ tae be a bit cramped for her. Most room’d be in the sub bay or one o’ the cargo rooms.”

I gaze up at the ship. “Which spot has the least amount of stuff that can fall over and hurt her?”

“Probably cargo two.” Angus nods once. “Keep her’ outta the rain and weather. I’ll see about gettin’ some blankets and whatnot so she can lay down. Go on up the gangway, turn right, and go to the end of the hall. Second door on the left from the end.”

“Thank you.” Paxton smiles at him, then walks with the unicorn up onto the gangway.

The horned wonder doesn’t have too much trouble fitting through the opening. The ship is huge, but it’s not so big that there are different entrances for people and cargo. Seems like it’s some sort of research vessel. At least, it looks like those ships they always have on documentaries where someone’s searching for lost treasure or a famous shipwreck.

There seems to be a crew on board as well. This is too much ship for one guy to run alone. The more I look at it, the more I start to feel guilty… like I’m one of those materialistic girlfriends dating a rich man who demands $50,000 bracelets. It couldn’t have been cheap to hire this guy.

Tammy wanders over to the boat.

Angus watches her go by, nods once, then looks down at her bare feet. “Ye forget somethin’, lass?”

“Nope.” Tammy laughs. “I didn’t want to lose them if I suddenly have to turn myself into a dolphin.”

Angus laughs, then spins to face Kingsley. “Interesting family you got, mate. She yours with that siren?”

“Hah. No.” Kingsley grins. “She’s Sam’s kid, from before I met her.”

“There’s a story, I bet.” Angus winks at me.

“More than one.” I whistle.

“Well, come on aboard, then. Kingsley here says yer in a bit of a rush. If so, then let’s get to it.” Angus waves us toward the gangway before striding back onto his vessel.

“This is almost too much,” I whisper to Kingsley.

“What is? Angus?” He smiles. “The man’s rather animated. Good mate, though. A bit too proper sometimes.”

“Proper?”

“He won’t touch human flesh. Only eats lamb and beef… deer, if he can get it.”

I tilt my head. “How is this a bad thing?”

“Among werewolves… he might as well be vegan.”

“Oh, the horror.” I fake grimace. “That’s as cringe as a vampire who won’t drink human blood.”

Kingsley narrows his eyes in jest. “Gee, what kind of vampire wouldn’t drink human blood?”

“I wonder.” I tap a finger to my lip.

We share a laugh.
