The black tendrils of poison still cut through my shoulder even after days, and I wore them with pride. I was the first she marked. I should be the first to mark her. I would do it in the bloodiest way possible, scar her so no one would deny she was mine.

When the time was right, when Valko finally let his guard down, I would turn her. Fil had wanted to bite her from the moment he set eyes on her. No matter how much Val pretended he wasn’t moved, I knew the effort it took for him to close himself from us whenever he was alone with her.

We even had to hide the dungeon keys so Fillian didn’t give in to his base instincts and fuck her to death. Though I was sure my Red could take it.

But it didn’t stop me from stealing them. And here I was, carrying a tray of meagre fruit, honey, bread, and cheese to the dungeon. Like that would satisfy her appetite when we all knew what she really needed.

I was a fucking idiot. It was embarrassing how badly I craved her.

I balanced the tray on my hip and unlocked the door, letting it swing open by itself. I was instantly hit with her spiced scent, my keen eyes adjusting quickly to the darkness. I grabbed a flaming torch from the bracket closest to the door and stepped inside. I knew there were brackets all along the walls in here, but I wanted to see her properly, so I strode directly towards her, placing the torch in the bracket to her left.

“Red.” I sneered. Just because I wanted her didn’t mean I would let her see how deeply she had already carved her way into my heart.

I dropped the tray in front of her, enjoying the way she flinched.

Going back to the door, I locked it behind me so Valko or Fil wouldn’t be able to interrupt. They’d feel it through the bond, smell me through the door, see the light - probably hear her, if things went my way - but that wouldn’t stop us. I wanted them to know what I was doing.

I bent down and tore the rag from between her lips. It was a fucking crime that Valko kept her gagged like this when I knew her voice was the sweetest thing I’d ever heard.

She choked out a laugh, lifting her head, looking at me through the dark material that bound her eyes. “What do you want, Lucien?”

It was deeper than I remembered, with a purr to it that made me drop to my knees before her. I clenched my fists to stop myself from reaching for her and holding her close.

Then I smelt it. The scent of blood around her. My wolf’s first instinct was to rise up, destroy whoever had dared hurt her, despite the situation we had forced upon her.

Red’s hands were resting on her bare thighs, but there was blood dripping down them, curling around her fingers, staining pure white skin. “What happened to you?” I asked roughly from my place on the floor, the complete opposite of what I had planned.

“Oh, you mean this?” She lifted her bound hands, rising at awkward angles, the weight of the metal obvious as the thick chains pressed over her hip, back to the wall. “Natural wear and tear. You cannot keep tying me up and fucking me like this without some damage.” She shrugged like it was nothing, as if the pain didn't affect her, but my wolf was already baring its teeth.

I had been so absorbed with watching her I hadn't noticed Valko had decorated the room. There was a sheepskin under her, pillows lying against the wall, blankets folded up beside her - there was even a table with fucking flowers on it.

What the hell was he doing with her down here?

“Did you come for a reason, Lucien, or was it just to stare at me?”

My attention snapped back to her. “I’m here to give you what you want.” I smirked.

Those gorgeous lips deepened in a smile as she tilted her head. “Hmm? Tell me then, Mr Big, Bad Wolf, what do I want?”

She wanted what every one of her kind desired: blood. She needed blood like we needed our wolves. There was no separating the two.

“Sustenance,” I said.

She was getting weaker as time wore on. Her skin was more drawn, and she was losing muscle too. She must have been feeding every day before we took her. There was no reason not to.

“Aaah, so this is why you have brought me a tray of food? I can smell the bread and cheese. Is that the best you can do?”

Why did her voice have to be so sultry? All I had heard from her was that one tense moment in the woods where she teased me before I leapt for her. But it didn't match up to this.

“It’s why I brought myself,” I said.

I could just see her eyebrows lift behind her tight blindfold.

“I have it on good authority that wolf’s blood is foul.” She turned her head from me, haughty in her disdain. “I would rather starve than take from you.”

“No, no, Red. You’re going to feed on me, you know why?”

Her lips curved, her interest piqued as she slowly looked back. “Do go on.”
