“You went to see her!?” I hissed. Now it was obvious what was happening when Lucien’s pleasure burst through our bond.

Valko told us not to go. He forbade us from going anywhere near the dungeon. But that was Lucien’s problem. He never followed orders, not unless our alpha commanded him and forced him to obey.

“Of course I did, little one,” he said, his expression shifting into one of his playful smirks, the one he always gave when he was about to tease me. “You think I was going to stay away when our princess was wasting away down there?” He said, his green eyes sparkling.

I reeled back, a gasp caught in the back of my throat as I saw the blood. Drying red stains around his mouth and streaks across his chin.

My eyes dropped to the open wound on his neck.

She’d bitten him…She’d sunk her teeth into his flesh. How was there so much blood?

I froze as I stared at him, my eyes running over the smears of blood on his cheeks.

There was only one way she could have bitten him.

He’d removed the gag.

My fingers tightened on the kettle as I tried to breathe.

He’d heard her voice.

He’d spoken to her.

She might have even told him her name.

I bit my tongue, trying to hold back the cloying jealousy that threatened to overwhelm me. My wolf was shaking, telling me to shift, to attack Lucien as he smirked down at me.

That was why the bond was stronger. Because she’d tasted his blood!

I swallowed, my throat tight as I pushed out my words. “Did…Did you make love to her?” I bit my lip, trying not to squeeze my eyes closed, because I already knew the answer. I could smell it on him.

Lucien laughed and clapped me on the shoulder, looking down at me with a grin. “It’s not lovemaking when she’s with me.” He winked before he sauntered off, carrying her delicious scent with him.

Why did he get to see her and I didn’t?

I’d wanted so badly to be alone with her ever since we first saw her. It was my dream to hear her voice and taste her soft sighs as I pushed inside her, to tell her I loved her and hear her reply.

Instead, Valko said we had to keep her chained up, even though it was so obvious that she loved us too.

She shouldn’t be chained. My princess needed to be free.

I’d wanted to travel since I knew that there was a world beyond the Obsidian Realms and the Black Forest. I collected maps and books about every nation on the Continent, and I knew exactly where I wanted to go when I was finally allowed to leave. And since we had brought her to our den, I had spent hours every night learning about all the beautiful places I could take her. But I couldn’t do any of that when Valko kept her trapped in the dungeon.

I wanted her so much. So why was I only allowed those few hours with her with Lucien and Valko when all I wanted was to be alone with her, and love her, and call her mine?

Valko was keeping me from her, keeping us controlled, only letting us see her when he brought her upstairs.

But it wasn’t like that anymore. Because Lucien had found the key and taken her all for himself.

I watched him, tracking his path as he made his way towards the corridors that led to our private rooms.

I decided to move instantly, releasing the kettle to creep after him, hoping I was quiet enough not to get caught. He had ears like a bat, way more sensitive than mine.

He was whistling as he swung the ring of keys on the end of one finger. I’d never heard him do that before. Whatever happened between them must have been better than anything the princess and I had done together.

At first I liked Lucien and Valko teaching me, but each time I saw her, I was more and more desperate to talk to her, alone, and let her drink from me, and learn everything about her so I could be the perfect mate for her.

And now Lucien had been in the dungeon with her and had seen her in ways I couldn’t - because she’d tasted his blood. His connection to her was stronger than mine just because of that.
