“I know perfectly well what he is doing!” I roared, stepping towards her, close enough that she could grab me had her hands been free.

Those blood red uniforms had become a source of terror for us. Every time they appeared, it spelled death for those around me. I had wanted to tear her uniform from her body when I searched her for silver. I only stopped myself because I knew I could not resist the sight of her naked skin.

“Do you think I would sit back while wolves are exterminated?” I snapped, my tightly restrained anger bursting free. “I watched for years as he destroyed my people, burning villages - killing children! Friends, family, lovers, all murdered before my eyes in our attempts to flee your Vermillion Knights.”

I was being swayed. Too easily at that. But there was some relief in unleashing this to one of those accountable for the near-extermination of my people. The loss of our friends was only another addition to the countless deaths her family had caused.

“Do you really believe I care about something that happened when I was still a child!?” the princess hissed. “This is not my doing. My father is responsible for this.” She shook her head, her voice lowering, her seriousness clear despite her surge of anger. “He is still a servant of the Indigo Empire - their thirst for blood is greater than my own. And you stealing my one chance to help my people will only continue the sweep of darkness across the lands.”

“I will not fall for your lies!”

“Listen to me!” she commanded, demanding my attention, her voice laced with honey and silk.

I shot straight up, my muscles tight, a gasp leaving me before her power took me. I could do nothing but obey.

Suddenly, all thoughts of revenge and punishment vanished as my need for her voice overwhelmed me. At the back of my mind, I knew I was being compelled, but her strength was irresistible.

“Come here, wolf. Come to me.”

I took an unwilling step forward, my body not my own. She grabbed my soul. I was nothing but a toy in her hands. Her beauty overcame me, and even the fear of red uniforms that haunted me had vanished beneath the desire to touch her.

“Will you give me your blood?” she purred.

I nodded, thrown outside of my body. All I could do was watch from inside myself as I kneeled, pushing away the tray so she could reach me more easily.

Her voice was a melody, each word a beautiful note crafted to capture me and draw me to her.

I tilted my neck, already giving in. It was just one bite, and she needed it. If I didn’t feed her, how would she survive?

“You want it so badly. To feel my fangs sinking into you. Think how good it will be to let me taste your blood.”

I groaned as I edged closer.

It was better than I had dreamed, and more. I needed to help her. I had to protect her, make sure she was safe. She was everything I wanted. All it took was giving her my blood and she would be mine.

She was seconds away from biting me when my wolf slammed down a barrier, throwing me away from her, cutting through the haze she had created. I jumped back immediately, my senses rushing back, snarling as the spell was broken.

My body jerked as feeling suddenly flooded me. I gasped, my very flesh lighting, buzzing, celebrating. My body shook as my mind returned to me again, the blood in my veins singing with freedom and desire. “You witch,” I spat at her, appalled that I had fallen so quickly.

Every drop of her compulsion left me and she laughed, the chains shaking, her haughty smile returning.

“Hmmm…” She pursed her lips. “I guess you are stronger than I thought.”

I would not fall for this again. The temptation to touch her, to either kill her or fuck her, was too strong, but my wolf knew deceit when he saw it. I rose, throwing her one last look as I moved to the door.

She was a poison, all of her kind were. They deserved to be exterminated as we had. She was the last link in the chain of vampire rule. If we broke her, we broke that chain, and my people would rise once again.

“Keep my words in mind, wolf.” Her voice was ominous as I lifted the torch, leaving her to be trapped in darkness.

I pulled the door open and heard her growl. “This will only end badly for you.”

I would not listen to her warning. We were protected as long as we remained here. Even the Grandmothers could not penetrate the barrier of the cave. Only those invited from within could enter, and we would never extend an invitation to any but the witch who first cast it.

She could make all the promises she wanted. There was no chance of her winning when we were her captors.

We would prevail. The wolves would return, no matter the cost.
