“Come for me, Ember,” Logan commanded. I obeyed and gave in to the fire, letting it consume me. My body arced, went rigid, and gave out a shriek. With all the tension gone for my body, I sagged into his arms.

He carried me to the couch, hard cock still in me. Slowly moving in and out, he made love to me this time. Our bodies moved together like well experienced dance partners. Long gentle kisses, light caresses, whispered words of tenderness. It was even more thrilling than being fucked against the wall had been. We gave ourselves to one another completely. When we climaxed, it was together, looking one another in the eyes. I finally understood what love felt like. Afterwards, we laid side by side. Logan had his arm wrapped around me. Just before we nodded off, I whispered, “I want to stay like this forever.”

I don't know how long we had been asleep when Logan jumped off the couch and I fell to the floor. Still groggy and confused, I looked up to see him running for the front door. By the time I wrapped myself in a blanket, he was on the porch. “What the hell are you doing?” I asked. “You’re bare ass naked. The neighbors are going to call the cops.”

“Somebody was looking in the window.”

I looked up and down the desolate street. “Where did they go?”

“I don’t know. They must have run off.” He followed me back into the house.

“Are you sure you didn’t dream the whole thing?”

“Maybe, but tomorrow I am calling to get those security cameras installed.” He checked the windows and pulled the drapes closed.

“I’m sure it was nothing,” I assured him. “Let’s go to bed.”

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Aiden

As I left the firehouse, I was still feeling the exhilaration. The call had come in yesterday afternoon. An unresponsive child. Cody and I immediately jumped into the bus and took off with the lights rolling and sirens blaring. In the passenger seat, I said a silent prayer that we would arrive in time.

Dispatch radioed with more details. A toddler had fallen into a pool. The mother had only turned her back for a moment. When she pulled him out of the water, he was not breathing. A neighbor heard her anguished cries and dialed 911. My heart was racing, and it had nothing to do with Cody flooring the accelerator.

When we arrived on the scene, the little blonde-haired boy was turning blue. I could not get a pulse and immediately started CPR. After a couple of minutes, he coughed and cried. Cody brought the gurney around back. We strapped the little boy in and got him to the ambulance as quickly as we could. I monitored his vitals while his mother sat across from me, stroking his cheek with tears in her eyes. At the hospital, we turned him over to the ER staff.

The doctor said he would be alright. But I called the hospital later that evening to check. The woman at the nursing station knew who I was and told me the patient was sitting up eating pudding and babbling away with the nurses.

Moments like that are why I took this job. Nothing will ever bring my father back, but every time I deny the grim reaper a soul, my grief gets a little easier to bear. I was riding an emotional high and could not wait to get home and share it with Logan and Ember.

But when I got home, they were still asleep. I assumed that they had been up late, not that this made me jealous. I was happy with the love the three of us shared. Regardless of what you may think, polyamorous relationships are not just wild, endless threesomes. One-on-one relationships are just as important as the group dynamic.

Just like in a two person relationship, sometimes one of us was unavailable or just not feeling it. The difference with our relationship was that there were other options available when craving physical intimacy. It would be ridiculous to expect that just because I was not home, they would deny themselves the pleasure of the flesh.

I put on a pot of coffee to brew and had scrambled the eggs, by the time Logan came into the kitchen. He gave me a kiss, and we hugged. “I missed you. How was your shift?”

Just as I finished relating the details of the EMS call, Ember came in and poured herself a cup of coffee. Before sitting down, she re-filled our cups. “You know you don't have to wait on us, right?”

“Shut up and say thank you.” She tousled my hair. “I enjoy taking care of my big, sexy men.” I smiled and asked how their evening had been.

“We were having a very pleasant night until Logan had a bad dream.” They took turns explaining what had happened.

“I wondered why the curtains were shut when I got home. Are you sure it was a dream? Do you think it might have been Reggie?”

Ember groaned. “Don't get started on that again. Your place is way too far from his apartment for him to be in this neighborhood.”

I looked at Logan. “Did you see any strange cars on the street?”

“None that didn't belong to the neighbors. Of course, he could have parked around the corner and been hiding in the bushes when I came out of the house.”

“Your paranoia is making me crazy,” Ember said. “Even if you saw somebody, it wasn't Reggie. Last I knew, his car was still broken down. I should have known better than to trust a mechanic who couldn't keep his own vehicle on the road.”

We went back and forth like that for a few more moments. None of us were certain Logan actually saw anybody, but agreed that it would be wise to keep the drapes closed. “Ember, I know you would like to get a car of your own, but I think it is best for now that one of us continues to drop you off and pick you up from work.” I could tell she was not happy about it. “Logan and I love you, and it would be devastating to us if anything happened to you.”

“You don’t play fair," she said. “I still think you guys are being overprotective, but I will go along with it for now.”

I kissed her on the cheek and reminded her we had a Krav Maga class later that day. While they went up to get ready for work, I scraped the leftover eggs into Smoke’s bowl and cleaned up the kitchen.
