I say nothing as he opens a little piece of his soul to me and says gruffly, “My family has many enemies. With that comes great responsibility. From an early age, I realized I had a gift for retribution. No morals, no fear and no shits to give. I was the perfect candidate for the path I’m on and my brothers and sister have their own talents that are used for the good of the family.”

“You work together?” I ask and he grips my arm a little tighter and says huskily, “We are a team. Like you and Reggie. Family matters, and I will kill anyone who tries to hurt any single one of them.”

“I love that about you.” I say, meaning every word, and he laughs softly. “Love and hate; two emotions in one day. Which one is it Lilli flower?”

“I’m still working on that.”

I sigh as I snuggle in closer. “I doubt I’m your first prisoner, Mikhail. What happened to the others before me?”

“You’re the first one I brought home with me.”

There’s an amused edge to his voice and I laugh softly. “Like an injured puppy.”

“Kind of.”

He nuzzles into my hair and plants a sweet kiss on the top of my head and says with a soft sigh, “I hate your past and I want to make it up to you.”

“It’s not your debt to pay.”

I shrug. “I appreciate the gesture, but I’m still here against my will.”

He pulls away and grips my chin, angling it toward him and I witness the anger flashing in his eyes that I stare at with a defiance that probably doesn’t escape him.

“You can’t pretend I’m your guest, Mikhail. I’ll accept you’ve been incredibly kind to me, but you are still holding me against my will. Admit it.”

“I deny nothing.” He stares deep into my eyes, and I love the intensity in his gaze as he whispers, “I’m still not letting you go. You will learn to accept what this is.”

“Then tell me what this is, Mikhail?”

I whisper against his lips and his reply makes my heart beat a lot faster.

“An obsession.”

I try to make light of it. To dispel the tense atmosphere that is notching things up a little.

“What kind of dumb ass response is that?”

“The truth. I will always give you the truth, Lilli. You may not like it, but it’s everything you deserve.”

“You are obsessed with me. Why?”

He runs his thumb across my lips and his eyes darken with lust, causing my breath to hitch.

“Because I have never met a woman like you. You are different.”

“In what way?” I’m curious and he touches my lips to his and says softly, “Honest. You wear your heart in full view for anyone to trample on. You are unimpressed with things others crave and demand. You also maintained a certain kind of innocence despite the fact others tried to crush it. I admire you Lilli and I want to help you attain your goals.”

“My goals?”

My breath hitches as his scent invades my senses. He always smells so damn sexy, and I love his aftershave that makes my senses sing.

The fact he is treating me as if I’m the most precious thing in his life is addictive and right now, in this moment, I would probably agree to anything.

“Revenge.”

Just the word alone causes my pupils to dilate, and I say softly, “What will you demand in return? I doubt it’s money you want.”

“Correct. You see…” He smirks and I should be really afraid right now at the wicked gleam in his eye as bites down softly on my lower lip, causing me to moan softly.
