“The only rules we’ll follow are the ones set by me. While you are here, you do what I say and what I want. If I want Katerina to manhandle you, as you put it, you’ll accept it and shut the fuck up.”

“I won’t.” She makes to stand, and I fix her with a steely glare, causing her to drop back into her seat with wide eyes.

“The only rule you need to follow, Lilli, is to do everything you are asked to. We have ninety-nine days and I’m sure you can suffer in silence for the duration. When I am bored with you, you’ll have your freedom. Until then, we have an agreement, and you do what the fuck I tell you to.”

“Mind your fucking language, you arrogant piece of shit.” She snarls and for some reason, it makes us both laugh out loud.

She shakes her head. “I’ll never understand you, Mikhail.”

“Good.” I lean forward. “Because then life would be boring.”

“So, you get your kicks from imprisoning reluctant women. Whatever makes you tick, I suppose.”

I shrug. “What makes you tick, Lilli flower?”

My question surprises her and she considers it for a while and then says dreamily, “The ocean. White sand and a palm tree with a blanket set under it and a good book beside me. An escape from reality and a soft breeze chilling the sun’s rays burning my skin.”

“A vacation?”

I smile softly. “That can be arranged.”

“Alone?”

Her eyes sparkle with hope, and I grin. “Not unless you take it in ninety-nine days’ time.”

“Maybe I will.”

She carries on eating, and I hate the thought of her wanting to be alone. She should want to be with me. Why is she resisting something that is so right? As I picture my usual breakfast where I eat alone, a strange sense of loneliness washes over me. I like having her here. I like it when she’s angry with me. Nobody is ever angry with me. They’re too frightened to show emotion when I’m around. Only my family calls me out on anything and now Lilli. Why do I like that so much and why do I regret stamping a time limit on her stay?

CHAPTER 30

LILLI

I’m so nervous I almost can’t breathe.

We head down to a different garage and my eyes widen at the sheer number of black vehicles and the swarm of men in black who surround them.

“What is this?” I whisper as I stick close to Mikhail, who makes every part of me throb with desire because he is so incredibly wicked in his business suit surrounded by his men.

There’s a raw power that surrounds him that warns not to touch. As if he would burn just by approaching him. He is cold, ruthless and callous. It’s all there in his expression and my breath hitches with desire, which makes me wonder what the fuck is wrong with me. Am I one of those women who craves a bad boy? Someone who is extremely bad for me, but I want to go there, anyway.

As I stare around, I ache to place my hand in his, to be reassured, safe even because any one of these men could kill me with one glare alone.

Then I notice her. Katerina, dressed in a black suit, her blonde hair hanging long down her back. Oversized black sunglasses are perched on her head, and I hate to admit it, but she looks incredible.

I watch as she steps into one of the cars and is followed by three others. Mikhail is talking to the man who appears to be his right hand and then glances my way. He nods toward a car with a guard standing by the open door.

“Get in the car, Lilli.” He says gruffly, and I’m glad to cooperate for once. As I scramble in, I wonder what the hell is going to happen. I swear I noticed a machine gun being loaded into the trunk. Are we going to war? Will I die today?

Mikhail joins me and as soon as the door closes behind him, the cars all roar into life.

I watch him fasten his safety belt and say tentatively, “What’s happening?”

“We’re going to get your diary.”

“And?”

I’m nervous because I don’t know what to expect and he reaches for my hand and squeezes it gently. “We’re going to get your mom some help.”
