LILLI

Idon’t feel good about myself at the moment. Mikhail has reminded me that this is as much business as what will happen in England. I am here until he grows bored with me. I have no say in what he does, who he sees, and how he operates. I am an employee if you like. No better than Katerina and Damien. We are here to serve him and nothing else.

I clean up and marvel at anyone who has a full-sized bathroom on board a plane. I am way out of my league and out of my depth and I never realized how much until now.

I can’t even argue with him because he has never pretended this is anything other than what it is. I must stay for the next three months and then I can leave.

My life sucks because the more time I spend with him, the more I’m dreading leaving him.

When he devotes his time to me, I may as well have a tail and wag it. I am already addicted to him, and I don’t stand a cat’s chance in hell in reversing that.

As I towel off and get dressed, I hate the idea of walking back into the cabin now everyone knows what went on. I’m Mikhail’s whore and everyone knows that. Even me.

Instead, I lie on the bed and curl into a fetal position. This is where I’ll stay. Where I belong, I suppose. All I need to do is stick this out for three months and then I can start again. One million dollars’ worth of a new start. Surely, it’s worth feeling like shit for three months when I have a new life to look forward to.

I must fall asleep because the next thing I know, I am pulled against a hard body and a soft whisper wakes me. “You’re angry with me.”

No prizes for guessing who this is and so I say calmly, “What makes you say that?”

“It’s not hard to figure out.”

“Don’t flatter yourself.”

I spin around and see the amusement in his eyes, and I face him with a blank expression and say evenly, “Do you want something?”

“Always.” He smirks and as he leans forward to kiss my lips, I move away so he gets my cheek and I say lightly, “Is there any food on board?”

“Of course.” He sighs and reaches for my hand.

“Come. I’ll join you.”

We head out of the cabin, and I set my mood accordingly. From now on I will be polite and do as I’m told. I’m sure he’ll soon get bored, and I’ll be set free sooner. I’m done trying to figure him out and I’m concentrating on protecting my heart instead.

We make our way to another cabin that resembles a fine hotel. There are several tables set up for dinner, and I glance at our fellow diners with curiosity.

Katerina is deep in conversation with a huge beast, and I expect they are swapping stories on the ten best ways to torture a person, or something along those lines.

Damien is eating with a laptop perched in front of him and I feel bad for him. He’s always working or appears to be. Who knows though, he may be watching the latest Netflix movie or porn. I wouldn’t put that past any of them.

There are other tables occupied by scary looking men and Mikhail leads me to one by the window, where there is nothing but clouds outside.

“Thanks.”

I accept the chair he pulls out with politeness and then study the small menu that has been placed on the table.

“Look at me, Lilli.”

I pretend not to hear him and then the menu is snatched away from my hand, causing me to glare at him in anger.

He appears almost amused, which doesn’t help my mood, and he surprises me by saying, “I’m sorry.”

“What for?” I maintain my blank expression, and he reaches across and grasps my hands.

“I’ve offended you.”

“What makes you say that?”

I shrug and he laces his fingers with mine and says huskily, “My visit here is pure business. As soon as I get the information I seek, I will leave.”
