I didn’t resist. I climbed into bed with her and pulled her into my arms. She rubbed into me, and she smelled like her own sweet scent and also like Maguire, and it was heady and good. I rumbled into her ear that I was hard for her.

She giggled. “I just woke up.”

I loosened my grip. “Sorry.”

“Just…” She blushed, bright red and adorable. “Bathroom,” she mumbled, and crawled out of the bed.

I rolled over, cradling my head with my hands.

“What the hell?” came Eleri’s voice from the bathroom. “Maguire, you’re in here?”

“I have to meet the Queen,” came his voice. “Just showering.”

“I have to…”

“Go ahead.”

“But you’re in here,” she said.

“Lifebond, sweetling,” I called to her. “We’re going to have to get used to each other at some point.”

“Doesn’t bother me,” said Maguire.

“I’m flushing,” she said tartly. “I don’t care if it makes the water scald you.”

He laughed.

I laughed.

When she came back to the bed with me, she was still red-faced, and I wasn’t sure if she was embarrassed or angry. She climbed over me, straddling me, and put her finger in my face. “This is not how it goes in romantic stories, okay? They always skip this part.”

“Peeing?” I said, smirking at her. “Seems to me everyone does it.”

“Yeah, but…”

“I think it’s romantic,” I said, rolling us both over, trapping her under me. “I think it shows how little any of that stuff matters, because we adore you, Eleri. You certainly can’t chase us off with your normal bodily functions.”

“Well, but… it’s too soon,” she said.

“Is it?” I said. I kissed her.

She let me, melting into me, small and soft and perfect against me.

I peppered her with kisses, loving how tiny she was in my arms, how right it felt to be back with each other.

“Plus,” she gasped, “I’m mad at you.”

“Oh, right,” I said. “Because I’m selfish and arrogant and controlling.”

She narrowed her eyes at me. “No, because you ordered Maguire to knot me without even asking me if I wanted to be knotted.”

I stiffened, pushing up on my palms so that we weren’t touching. “Eleri, if you didn’t want him to—”

“I did, but that’s besides the point!”

I surveyed her. “What’s the point, then?”

“We wanted you there when it happened,” she said. “Both of us. You mean a lot to both of us. Maguire and me, we’re both in love with you.”
