“It is where you’re concerned.”

“Do you deny she was flirting with you?”

“No. She seemed to enjoy pulling your tail. I will also admit I knew it and allowed it to continue because seeing you jealous did my poor, fragile male ego some good.”

“Because she batted her eyes at you?” Brie snorted.

“You noticed that, did you?”

“Didn’t you? And if you didn’t, were you blind?”

“No. I was too busy looking at you. It seemed incongruous to me that you could be jealous when all you ever do is tell me how horrible I am, and that you want to part ways with me. Although, given how you have jerked me around for years, I think a little payback is warranted.”

“I despise you and your little witch. I’ll help her because I took a vow to do so,” she pushed against him. “But you and I are done.”

He shook his head. “I’m not going to let you slip away again, Brie,” he growled against her mouth, his hands skimming across her body, holding her close. “Don’t fight me, Brie. I need you. I love you. We are meant to be.”

“No,” she whispered as she wrapped her body around his.

COLBY

He had loved her since they were children. He had challenged for leadership of their clowder and had killed her father to keep Brie and Kyra safe. Kyra was almost too young to remember, but Brie had known her father would fall, never to get up again. He could feel her give over to him with a strangled cry.

She moaned against his lips as she kissed him back, her tongue entering his mouth to tangle with his. “Colby,” she groaned. “I need you.”

Settling himself between her legs, he traced the curve of her jaw with his fingers, igniting the wildfire that had been banked but still burning since she’d left him on Christmas morning. “We are not done. You couldn’t be more wrong about that. We are only just beginning.”

The words hung in the air—a silent confession of longing that had arced between them for a very long time. It was Brie’s face he had seen as they tortured him. Her words that had kept him alive, helped him escape, and allowed him to heal. She was everything to him.

His fingers tangled in her long, red locks, fisting them and holding her in place for the way he ravaged her mouth. “You are mine, Brie. We both know that.”

She laughed at his words; it was a sound without joy or even mirth. It was filled with pain. Colby’s mouth descended again, cutting off her thoughts and fanning the flame that burned bright between them. Her taste was intoxicating as he slid his tongue along the length of hers, intensifying the surge of arousal that stormed through her system.

“Choose me, Brie,” he murmured against his lips. “Choose me. Stay here with me—just be with me.”

Her fingers clutched at his back as he deepened the kiss. The hand in her hair gave it a little tug as the other hand roamed her body, making the flames burn higher. He lifted his head, his dark eyes intense as he searched her face.

“I can’t do this. Every single time, I swear it won’t happen again, but I can’t help myself. I’m so tired of fighting you.”

“Then don’t,” he purred.

He leaned in again, their lips meeting with a fervor that left them breathless. Brie clutched at his back while his fingers tangled in her tousled hair. His hands slid down her body, tracing a path that left goosebumps in their wake. Colby gasped against her mouth, all resistance swept away by the storm that raged within them both. She lay on her back in the soft grass as his body covered hers like a warm blanket on a chilly day.

Colby’s kisses trailed along her neck, drawing soft sighs as he moved lower. Her hands roamed over his broad shoulders, tracing the hard lines of muscle. Their hearts beat together, seeming to race each other as they tried to match each other’s erratic heartbeat.

“Colby.” She whispered his name like a prayer, her sighs sending shivers down his spine as they moved along his skin.

Her skin warmed and burned wherever his kisses traveled until he reclaimed her mouth with a passion that threatened to consume him from the inside out. His name on her lips was a simple statement of what they knew, the intensity pushing them onward. His fingers traced the lines of her belly, each touch further fanning the flame. It was almost overwhelming in the very best way possible.

He looked into her eyes with intense and unspoken passion. His hands drew her closer once again, his lips meeting hers with an urgency he hadn’t realized he possessed. Brie reached down between them, her hand wrapping around his hard cock. She tightened her grip as he groaned in pleasure.

Lining himself up with the entrance to her core, Colby sank himself deep inside her. The pleasure was as intense, sharp, and intoxicating as it always was. She wrapped her arms around his neck, her fingers seeking his back as her nails dug into his shoulder blades. He reveled in the feelings coursing through him. He shuddered as he pulled out almost completely before sinking back into her with a low growl.

“Brie,” he murmured, his hand tracing the contours of her waist before slipping beneath her, steadying them both.

Determined to take his time, he moved in and out of her in a slow rhythm that sent pleasure coursing through his body. Brie moaned his name—her words desperate, needy, silently pleading for him to continue pleasuring them both. Gradually, his movements became swifter and more defined—each thrust met with a gasp or a sigh. Their bodies moved in sync and in a kind of perfect harmony. The world beyond ceased to exist, and only the two of them remained.

Her core was hot, wet, ripe, and needy. He gripped her tighter, his hands clutching the globes of her ass and keeping her still as he drove into her relentlessly, each thrust more powerful than the last. She arched her back, meeting his movements with an urgency that matched his.
