“So, what do we do with the real Adriana?”

“She comes with us. I have acquired a small, prototype turboprop seaplane that can handle an Atlantic crossing. We fly from here to Maine, then to Greenland, then to Iceland, and then on to the UK. As it’s a seaplane, I’ve had my people converting a cave under the abbey into a hidden hangar and marina. Eventually it will be equipped with three powerboats and two turboprop airplanes, plus a number of jet skis and if I can get my hands on one, a good-sized submersible.”

“You want a submarine?”

“Yes. I thought about painting it yellow but decided that was too kitschy even for me.”

“Hard to believe such a thing exists,” Brie laughed.

She really did love him—wait! Where had that thought come from? She had been willing to admit he was her fated mate but had chalked that up to pheromones and lust. But love? That had never been part of the equation.

“I’d love to know what you were thinking just then.”

“I was thinking you’re crazy, but your plan might work. We’d need to be careful in Iceland, especially if we tried to refuel in Reykjavik. The League still holds some sway there.”

“No, before that. You laughed, and then the most peaceful look came over your face.”

Shit! The man didn’t miss anything. “You promised to shelve all that. If you can’t live up to your promises…”

“That’s unkind and unfair, Brie. I have never broken a promise to you. Never.”

He was right. “No, you haven’t, but I don’t need the added stress of trying to fend off your advances or meaningful discussions about what you see as our future.”

Colby took a deep breath and sighed. “You’re right. In any event, once we have Adriana in Cornwall, there are a myriad of ways to get her up to the Highlands.”

“This is an ambitious plan. How did you know we were getting Adriana?”

“I didn’t, but it’s a contingency Winter and I started working on long ago. We noticed a lot of the women you save are in Europe and the Middle East. It seemed like a good idea to have a jumping off place in the UK. So, some of this was already in the works. Cullen came up with the idea of multiple planes leaving one right after the other while the three of us make our way to Anchorage…”

“How do you plan to get us to Anchorage?”

“We’ll be hidden away on one of the fishing trawlers that leave every morning. Once in Anchorage, we pick up the plane and start our journey to Cornwall.”

“You can pilot this plane?”

“I can. I’m licensed for everything up to a jet engine, but we’ll have a couple of people with us, and I’ve persuaded Maya to join us.”

If Maya was coming… “You’re not planning to come back.”

“I’m hoping to persuade you to use the abbey as your base and your headquarters.”

“Who will run Windsong?”

“My sister and her mate. Scott will make an excellent alpha, and Kyra will be his beta and represent Windsong and me in the Resistance. Scott is a master chef, and I’m sure will want the kitchen run his way. Maya decided she was up for a new adventure,” he said with a shrug, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

“Why, Colby? You love Windsong.”

“I love you more,” he said simply. “And before you snarl at me, you asked.”

She nodded. “You’re right. I did.”

The next day Brie was a bit surprised, as all of Windsong was buzzing by the time she got downstairs. People were readying for Colby’s ambitious plan and were operating like a well-oiled machine. She almost didn’t recognize Adriana when she took her place in the seat next to Colby. Gone was the black hair and piercing blue eyes. In its stead was a head full of caramel blonde tresses and mocha-colored eyes.

“You look amazing,” said Brie.

“Thanks. I’m not sure I don’t like it better. I’ve had the black and blue all my life and it kind of stamps you with the whole Irish look. This is kind of fun. I used to think about colored contacts before I was turned. I wore glasses, but it seems that in being made a shifter my eyesight was improved.”

“Ladies, I hate to rush you, but I’d like to get us out of here sooner rather than later. We have a small fishing fleet that heads out every morning. We’ll be a part of that. I don’t think anyone will notice; at least, that’s what I’m hoping for.”
