She tried not to take it personally. More than anything, she wanted to touch him again. She wanted to feel the intensity of him buried inside her again.

Once he was out of sight, she turned and looked around.

“Well, now what?” she grumbled to herself. The only thing that made sense was to get a drink from one of the tables that were set up with an assortment of different beverages. A margarita sounded good.

Once she had one in her hand, she decided to head outside. Fresh air might help clear her mind. As she sipped her drink, she walked away from the mansion to explore the grounds.

The sound of approaching footsteps behind her caught her attention. When she turned, a man in a mask was a little too close for comfort. Having absolutely no desire to hook up again, especially after Oliver, she turned on her heel and kept walking.

After a moment, Lillian realized she was still being followed. “Can you, please, fuck off?” she said hotly.

A deep chuckle caused her to freeze in her tracks.

“You really don’t know who I am?”

She cocked her head, and when he lifted a hand to remove the mask he wore, she gasped. “Uziel Berjer? I didn’t know you were a shifter!”

He laughed again and took a step closer to her. His nearness made her incredibly uncomfortable. Uziel was an art collector and a rich, well-known connoisseur in the art industry. Lillian had met him a handful of times. Each and every time, her skin crawled.

He looked like a creep. She thought that the first time she met him. He was tall and muscular, which made sense now that she knew he was a shifter. His eyes were dark and beady, almost like a rat. He kept his hair on the longer side, parted directly down the middle. It framed his face.

He might be attractive if he wasn’t such a slimeball. He reminded Lillian of a predator. Like a monster in a closet, stalking the little girl in her bed. That’s how she felt right now.

“I told you not to underestimate me. I have a lot of power, Lillian.”

Instantly nervous, Lillian tried to move away, but he took yet another step closer to her and picked up a lock of her red hair that had slipped its braid. Uziel wrapped the strand around his fingers and inhaled deeply.

Instantly disgusted, Lillian felt her heartbeat pick up.

“Why are you wearing hunter’s block?” he asked.

She saw his face contort, first in confusion, then suspicion.

With a shrug for an answer, she pulled back. Not only did she not want to give him any details about her night with Oliver, she had no desire to feel him touch her. After Oliver, she wasn’t sure she wanted any other man to ever touch her again. But especially Uziel.

Her nervousness began to turn to fear. Now that she pulled back, he stalked toward her. For the first time, she realized how unstable he was. That fear began turning to terror.

“Um, I should get back to the party.”

He ignored her. “You know, the only reason you and your friends are here is that I arranged it.”

Her eyebrows pinched together at his announcement. “What do you mean?”

He smirked. “I’m the one who sent those shifters into the bar tonight. The one you and your friends were celebrating at. I told the models I hired to drop that key and to make sure one of you found it. I figured you girls would figure out what it was for.”

Her fear of his proximity caused her to tremble slightly. She began sweating and felt her hands clam up. “But why?”

Uziel reached up and ran a finger down her cheek. She shivered. “Because I knew that curious mind of yours would want to explore this kind of party. I’ve always admired your mind, Lily. And your beauty. You are beautiful, you know that?”

She chuckled nervously. “Thanks, Uziel. But I really need to get back to the party. My friends are probably looking for me.”

“They’re all hooking up with shifters. They’re not looking for you, trust me.”

She swallowed, her mind frantically racing to come up with another excuse to get away from him.

“Your mind intrigues me, Lily. You have an eye for art. I noticed that the first time I met you. Not many out there know what to look for. But you … Well, you’re different. I’ve had my eye on you for a while, and I’m done waiting. I think it’s time you and I are finally together.”

Her breath caught in her throat as she realized the implication of his words. There was little in the world she wanted less than to physically be with him, especially after sharing herself with Oliver.
