“Have you told Kane that you’re thinking about it?”

“No.” My defenses automatically went up. It was a knee-jerk reaction that I assumed stemmed from not wanting Remi to find out anything had happened between us. “Why would I tell Kane?”

Harmony tilted her head to the side. “I know we look good for our age, but we were not born yesterday.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, we’re not blind.”

When I didn’t respond, she continued.

“You and Kane put off so many sparks, I thought they were going to hand out welder’s masks at the Movies in the Park.”

“No.” I shook my head. “We didn’t. There’s not… no.”

“You know, for an actress, you are a terrible liar,” Harmony teased. Or at least, I thought she was teasing.

“If you don’t want to talk about it, it’s fine,” Destiny assured me. “But, if you do, we’re here.”

I looked at both women, whom I’d known practically my entire life but had only really known for the past two months. I glanced over and saw that Harper was occupied with Lilah. “I don’t know what’s going on with us. We’ve had a few…moments, but I don’t think he wants anything serious with me.”

“Ha!” Harmony let out a forced laugh. “Are you kidding me? Kane is Mr. Serious. He wants to put a ring on it.”

“I know that’s what he wants, but I don’t think he wants that with me.”

“Have you asked him what he wants?” Destiny asked gently.

“Sort of.”

Destiny and Harmony exchanged glances before Harmony spoke for them both. “We’re going to take that as a no.”

“It’s not that simple. It’s…complicated.”

“Nope. Wrong answer.” Harmony shook her head. “This is not a Facebook status; this is your life. You need to talk to him.”

“I think he just sees me as Remi’s little sister.”

“Yeah, and Hudson saw me as JJ’s little sister. And JJ saw Destiny as his little sister’s best friend. That’s what happens when you grow up in the same town. But that changes, and if you two have had moments, then that means he doesn’t see you like that anymore.”

“What about you?” Destiny asked. “What do you want? Do you want to stay in Wishing Well?”

Yes, at this moment, I was happy here. But was that just because I was burned out? Would I get bored staying here? Restless?

I loved Kane. I had my entire life. And I loved Harper, Bandit, and Otto now, too. But would that be enough for me?

“I don’t know,” I answered honestly.

“Well, you should probably figure that out first. It seems if any questions need to be answered, it’s that one.” Harmony dropped her wisdom as her phone rang. It was her mom needing her to run an errand for the wedding.

The conversation turned to Destiny and the girls’ sleepover, and soon I found myself and Harper walking home from the park. As we did, I looked around the town. I’d always felt like such an outsider, but now…now it was different. Now, I felt like I was home.

“Love can feel like heaven, but also hurt like hell.” ~ Miss Dottie

This isn’t a real date, I reminded myself as I sat beside Ruby and watched one of my best friends in the world say, ‘I do.’
