She couldn’t stop thinking about the shifter in the motorcycle helmet.

She’d worn herself out last night trying to track down all the registrants of Damon’s Mountains, and she’d found a name for a shifter with bi-colored eyes that had most recently belonged to the newly-created Warlander Crew. The website offered a pitifully small amount of information though. Just his name, his height, an estranged brother, his parents—Haydan and Cassie of the Ashe Crew—and that he had bi-colored eyes. And that he was a grizzly shifter. Nothing more.

A grizzly shifter. Geez. She’d seen some of those Changing on the news when she was a little girl. The Keller brothers, Fire Bears of a crew of firefighters, had gone wild in their town and it had created a snowball effect that pushed shifters into the public eye, with them eventually being required to register.

Grizzly shifter. Shhhhit. Those were terrifying.

She’d been scared of shifters when she was younger. The news was brutal on them, and any mistake they made was hashed out in the public eye. They were discriminated against, and sure, even Hallie had bought into the negative media attention back when she was younger. Now? Oh, she believed they were dangerous, but they also had protective instincts, and one had used those for her benefit.

All his registration information did was whet her appetite for more information on the mystery shifter.

Her phone lit up on her bedside table, and an awful feeling took her gut. It would be Derek. He would’ve tracked down her new number and it would be some threatening, terrifying, vile message.

But when she propped up on her elbow and looked at the glowing phone screen, it was a message from Corey, who was supposed to be sleeping in the next room.

It was a link to some website called Bangaboarlander.com.

Hallie pulled her reading glasses on and poked the link.

She read that part a few times before she relaxed back in bed and messaged Corey. How did you find this? Send.

I used to troll this website back when I was over men, fantasizing about fucking a shifter instead.

Hallie snorted. Well, at least Corey owned her stuff.

He sounds like a mess. Send.

Just like someone else I know. See you in a few hours. Night cuz.

Cuz was what they’d always called each other since they were little. Hallie couldn’t help the smile that confiscated her lips. They were cousins, but their moms had been so close, most of the time Corey felt like a sister.

Night cuz. Send.

Hallie settled the phone onto her chest and watched the fan. There was a ‘message about this shifter’ button at the bottom of Gunner’s page.

Gunner Walker.

Such a cool name for a badass man.
