“A-are we home?” She asked, and I nodded my head.

“I have to go to work now, so I’ll be leaving you with Benjamin.” She nodded her head and yawned.

“Now, let’s get you up there so I can get going,” I spoke, unbuckling her seatbelt, and she nodded once again.

“Okay, daddy..” She said, and I froze momentarily and looked at her sleepy eyes. After realizing what she said, her eyes shot open, and her hands flew to her mouth in an instant. I could see tears coming to her eyes, and my eyebrows furrowed.

“I-I’m s-sorry. I-I d-didn’t mean to say that. P-please d-don’t be m-mad at me. Please, I-I didn’t mean it.” I shushed her softly as she slowly started hyperventilating, and tears fell down her face. Entering the car entirely, I shut the door and pulled her into my lap as she cried even more. I felt at a loss. She was practically trembling in my arms as if she was afraid.

“I-I didn’t mean i-it, K-Killy. P-please d-don’t be mad at me.” She cried, and I could feel her heart beating rapidly.

“Delilah, sweetheart, relax. I’m not upset. I need you to calm down, okay?” She nodded her head, but her tears still fell out of her eyes as she tried to control her breathing.

“I’m not upset that you called me your dad.”

She sniffled and looked up at me. “Y-you’re not?”

“Of course I’m not… If anything, I’m happy you’re comfortable enough to even call me your dad. I don’t mind at all.” She wiped her tears away, and I pulled her closer to me while I rubbed her back. After a few seconds, her breathing slowed.

“Since you’re with Bribri.. I thought you were my daddy, but I wasn’t sure..” She whispered, and I hummed as I silently ran my fingers through her hair.

“I understand..You don’t have to justify your words or feelings, sweetheart.” I muttered as I could tell she wanted to explain why she felt this way.

“…Can I ask you a question?” She whispered after a few moments, and I nodded my head as I listened to her.

“D-do you think Bribri would be mad if I called her mommy?” She asked, and I could tell she wasn’t entirely sure.

“Of course she wouldn’t, sweetie..” She nodded her head and laid it in the crook of my neck as she didn’t want to say anything else. Wordlessly, I opened the door to the car and took her up to the penthouse. Benjamin took her from my arms without question, and I returned to my car.

Arriving at my building, I quickly went to my elevator and took it to my floor. The doors opened, and I could see my father sitting on the couch in my office. As I entered, he looked over at me and spoke.

“Thank you for gracing us with your presence, Killian.”

“Be thankful I need you right now, or I’d have no problem showing you to the door.” He chuckled, and Brielle entered the office with a cup of coffee and placed it in front of him. He thanked her, and she nodded politely.

She looked over at me discreetly before walking to her office. Ignoring my father, I walked after her and entered her office, but not before changing the wall settings so that they weren’t transparent. Closing the door behind me, I grabbed her arm and pulled her over to me.

I looked down at her, and she avoided eye contact. “What did I do now to deserve the silent treatment?” I asked, and she shrugged.

“Getting a heads up that your father was going to come and basically stare me down until you arrived would have been nice.”

“I didn’t know he was coming.” I turned her around in my arms, and she looked up at me with an unexplainable emotion. After a few seconds, she looked away.

“You should get going. He’s waiting for you outside.” She dismissed, and I furrowed my eyebrows.

“Brielle.. why have you been acting so different all of a sudden?” I questioned, and she pulled out of my arms as a blush rose to her face, and she bit her lip.

“No reason.. I just have a lot on my mind… Anyway, how was your day with Delilah?”

“What kind of things are on your mind exactly?” I asked, approaching her slowly, and she gulped and backed away. I was about to open my mouth to ask her again, but I heard a knock on the door.

“Killian.. As much as I like eavesdropping on my son’s conversations, I would like to get through this today.. And give Ms. Newman a break.” He spoke as I closed my eyes and sighed internally. Opening them back up, I looked at Brielle and grabbed her arm before she could go any farther.

“We’ll come back to this conversation a little later..” I said, and she wasn’t making direct eye contact as if she was purposely avoiding me again. I grabbed her chin and forced her to look up at me.

“Understood?” I asked, and she nodded her head.

“I understand.” She whispered, and I looked down at her lips for a split second and claimed them with my own. I pulled her closer, and I could practically feel her pouring her emotions into the kiss. I moved my hand to her waist, but I pulled away and groaned when I heard my father’s voice again as he sighed.
