Chapter fifty-two

Benjamin walked into the kitchen angrily after Pierce and stopped in the center of the floor. Pierce continued to his tasks, knowing Benjamin was more than upset. “Whatever the hell that bastard has planned, I won’t let it go on.” Pierce sighed as he shook his head.

“It’s far too late. Mr. Lockwood is already in the beginning phases of his plans.”

“What plan of his involves Delilah? What the hell is he plotting?”

“You know I can’t discuss business matters.”

Benjamin scoffed at the man he used to know as a close friend. “I don’t understand why you chose to work for this man in the first place.”

“I have my reasons, Ben, as do you.” Benjamin picked up his phone and quickly texted Killian’s security. He received a reply in less than a minute, informing him they would be there as soon as possible.

“If you’ll excuse me, I need to get back to Delilah so we can leave. Our escort will be here shortly.”

“You know you need to wait for me.” Pierced muttered, and Benjamin sighed. “Well, hurry up then. I don’t have all day.”

Meanwhile, in the study, Calvin watched the interaction between his son and Delilah happily. He knew it was only a matter of time before Benjamin alerted Killian, so their time was limited. However, he didn’t expect much to happen since it was their first encounter.

Feeling his phone ring in his pocket, he looked down and smiled at the caller ID. Standing up, Delilah’s eyes quickly went over to Calvin. Archer’s eyes lingered on Delilah for a moment longer before he finally turned to see his father.

“I have a call to take children. I’ll be right outside the door.” Before either child could protest, Calvin approached the door and stepped out. Was it wise of him to leave two children in a room by themselves? Not at all, but to Calvin, it seemed like a fine idea for the both of them to get to know one another.

He picked up the phone and held it to his ear. “Tell me we’ve managed to capture the winter soldier,” Calvin spoke childishly as he waited for the reply.

“…Sir, we’ve managed to locate Eugene Newman, but we’ve lost visual. He was last spotted in a cafe by Killian Russel’s building, but we haven’t located him for the last hour.”Calvin sighed heavily in annoyance as he responded.

“I give you all one task. One task. To find a fucking man. It shouldn’t be that hard.”

“We’ve tried everything, sir. But every time we’re even close-”

“I don’t want to hear you’re bullshit excuses. You find me that man, or you can kiss you and your entire livelihood goodbye.”

Ending the call, Calvin regained his composure slowly, only to be interrupted as he heard a throat clear. He looked up angrily at his assistant. “What.” He snarled, and the man gulped. “Mr. Russel’s security personnel are on the way.”

“Of course they are.. Have my jet prepared by three. I need to be out of this city for a while. My son will be accompanying me as well.” His assistant nodded as he replied. “Of course, sir.”

As the man walked away, Calvin placed his hand on the doorknob of his study and opened it to see a peculiar sight. The two children hadn’t moved from their spots, but Archer’s gaze on Delilah had her cowering away slightly in her chair. Calvin checked his watch and sighed as he fully entered the room and caught their attention.

“Kitten… I’m afraid our little meeting will have to continue another time as you and Benjamin have to get going soon.” Delilah nodded, and as if on cue, Benjamin walked through the door and went straight for the little girl.

Fixing her in her jacket, he placed her on his hip and glared at Calvin in complete rage. “You’ll be hearing from my lawyers,” he seethed, and Calvin chuckled harmlessly. “And I simply can’t wait to have a chat with them. Tata now.” Benjamin paid the man no mind as he exited the room and went to the front door. Sitting on his leather chair, Calvin watched as his son’s eyes didn’t move from the door.

“Father…” Archer spoke, and Calvin responded.

“Yes, son?” He asked, and the young boy continued gazing in the direction Delilah and Benjamin had left.

“… Is she mine?”

Taken back by his son’s question, Calvin didn’t say a word. All of his emotions were masked under his blank stare. The boy turned to his father angrily and spoke.

“I asked a question. Is she?” Calvin chuckled internally as his son continued to glare. Leaning forward, he took a sip of the tea Pierce had brought in and answered the impatient child.

“All in good time, son… all in good time.”

Killian

Entering the penthouse with Brielle by my side, I immediately excused myself to my office and called Benjamin in. He stepped inside, and I breathed in and out as I couldn’t even get my words together. “How do you manage to have you and Delilah essentially kidnapped by Calvin? I would assume you would at least put up some sort of fight.”
