“Alrighty then… and no Bribri. He wouldn’t dare cheat on you.”

“But who is she, and why would he not tell me one of his past ‘lovers’ was at his office? If I wasn’t smart, what do you suppose I would think the second I saw him in a room with her, alone at that?”

He shrugged as he nodded his head. “Yes, it looks sketchy and all, but I promise, it’s strictly business from her.”

“Why does he need her to help him?”

“Well, she knows Marissa and has crucial information. The second part is a little secret for you… but I’ve already said too much.”

“But why does it need to beherthat helps him? That’s all I want to know.”

“Bribri, she’s the best at what she does, and Killian will keep at a business level only.” I shook my head as I sat back in my chair.

“He just better.”

He tilted his head at me. “I know you’re feeling a little jealous and possessive, but it looks like there’s another emotion floating around in there. Tell Uncle Blaine what’s wrong?” I rubbed my temple as I closed my eyes and sighed.

“I saw my sister today. She looked angry, scared, distressed… I don’t know why she’s doing all this.. She actually threatened to kill me. Now, I’m not sure if it was completely genuine, but it didn’t sit well with me throughout the whole car ride, and seeing that woman in Killian’s office only made it worse.” He gave me a sad smile.

“Sounds like you’ve had a pretty rough morning, babe.” I scoffed, his words seeming more like an understatement.

“Yeah, no kidding.. Did Harrison get back to you yet? I know it’s only been a day, but I just want to know.”

“Yes, he did.. Marissa set a court date a few weeks from now, and her alibi doesn’t really help her case.” Blaine shrugged, and I continued. “Do we know exactly what she told them?”

“Not all the details, but it was along the lines of being forced into leaving the baby and a lot more bullshit excuses.” I rolled my eyes.

“Will she ever give up? It’s like she tried coming back, thinking I would give my baby up to her willingly. As if I wasn’t the one raising her and being in and out of the hospital.” He nodded his head as he looked down at a file.

“I know, Bri, I know…” He sighed, and his facial expression changed slightly.

“I-I just wish we could do something to get our minds off all this….” Toward the end of his sentence, he pulled a laptop out of the drawer beside him, along with a bunch of paperwork on top of it.

I rolled my eyes at him. “Blaine, what’s all of this?” He looked down at the paperwork that was now sitting in front of me in complete astonishment.

“What? Ugh! When did that get there? Well, since we have it out, we’d better just go through it and complete it all.” I tilted my head at him.

“Blaine.” He pouted and spoke dejectedly.

“….My secretary’s on vacation.” I shook my head at him.

“And now you want me to ‘help’ you with your work?” I guessed, knowing if I agreed, I’d be doing most of it. He pouted even more, if possible, and spoke.

“..Please, Bribri…” I stared at him for a good moment before reluctantly sighing and grabbing the laptop and files to place them on my lap.

“Find me a desk.” He squealed happily as he got up and kissed the top of my head.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” I pushed him away, laughing.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know you won’t get anything done if I did leave you, so consider this a favor.” He went behind my chair and pushed me towards the coffee table. Once I was in front of it, he carelessly wiped everything off of it, took all of the papers and such off my lap, and fixed it on the table. He kneeled to eye level and gave me a smile.

“Can I get you anything, miss?” I grabbed the pen out of his suit pocket and gave him a smirk.

“I’ll take an iced coffee.”

“Of course,” he said as he looked over his shoulder to Nathan. “You heard the woman. Get to it.” Nathan gave a small sigh before leaving the room. Opening the laptop, I quickly got started as I attempted to ignore Blaine while he hovered over my shoulder.

I heard him speak after a few seconds. “….Have I ever told you how smart you are?”
