There were a bunch of different name-brand cars that all belonged to him. George pulled up in a small black limousine and came out to open the door for us. I stepped in, thanking him, and Killian got in as well.

He drove off, and Killian was acting a little strange. More so than usual. I was going to ask if everything was alright, but when he put his hand on my leg, I didn’t say a word. He made it seem like he wasn’t doing anything as he looked through the emails on his phone.

Meanwhile, I was over here burning up as his thumb rubbed over my knee. I played with the ends of my hair until George parked the car and opened the door for us. When Killian exited the car, I let out a breath I didn’t even know I was holding in and followed him. He placed his hand on the small of my back, and we made our way inside.

Once in the building, I was shocked at how well the director followed Killian’s orders. Everything was absolutely perfect. Killian walked me through the small crowd of people, and a few of them turned and glanced at us.

I didn’t look at them because I didn’t want to see the looks of judgment on their faces. I saw Blaine sitting at a table, and he smirked as he saw us. Killian pulled out a chair for me, and I took a seat, giving him a small thank you. He sat beside me, and Blaine awwed.

“Aren’t you two just the cutest?” I didn’t say anything in response, and Killian didn’t pay him any mind. Blaine started to speak to Killian about the important individuals already here. He mentioned that they needed to have a word with them as they could be significant investors in Killian’s company and potential associates for Blaine’s. Soon, they both stood up, and Killian led me to a group of men all in tuxedos with slick back hair.

“Good evening, Mr. Russel, Mr. Porter,” One of them said, and Killian and Blaine shook hands with them all.

“Evening, gentlemen..” Killian responded.

“The decor is perfect as usual,” The one on the end said, and they all nodded. I moved closer to Killian as more people started entering the building. The men leaned in a little, and the one in the middle spoke.

“I hear Calvin Lockwood is coming tonight.”

“He is.. I didn’t invite him, but one of my executives did. He already invested his money into Mr. Carpenter’s cooperations.” Blaine responded, extremely irritated.

“He’s a sneaky little bastard, isn’t he.” They all laughed, agreeing, except for one whose eyes were directly drawn to me. He turned to Killian.

“Who’s the shy beauty behind you?” He asked, taking a sip of his drink, and everyone turned their eyes to me. I looked down at my heels, and Killian pulled me to his side by my waist.

“She’s off limits.” Was all he said, and they all smirked at Killian while Blaine excused himself to make the announcements.

After about an hour, everyone had arrived, and the food was served. Everything was going well, and there was no sign of Calvin yet. I had only eaten half of my food as I wasn’t too hungry, and I looked over to the dance floor to see people moving with their partners to the music. Killian stood up and held his hand out to me.

“May I have this dance?” He asked, leaning down slightly, and I placed my hand in his. He pulled up slowly and took me over to the dance floor. Once on the floor, he placed his hands around my waist, and I put mine around his neck. I was slightly tempted to look at the people around us, but I kept my eyes trained on him.

“You know Brielle.. I’ve never met a woman quite like yourself..”

“Really?..” I asked, dumbfounded. I’m the most ordinary person I’ve ever known.

He shook his head. “You’re different.. and I don’t know why, but-” He pulled my hips closer, and I squealed slightly. I tried to look away from his eyes, but it was as if they were pulling me in.

“That’s one of the many things I admire about you.” He leaned closer to me, and I gulped as he was only a few inches away. He squeezed my hips a little more, and I could feel his minty breath on my lips. I leaned a little closer, and before his lips touched mine, we heard someone speak.

“Woah! I hope I’m not ruining anything… I wouldn’t want to seem impolite.” I pulled away to see a man beside us who was smiling happily. He was dressed in a dark navy blue suit, and his hair was pulled back in a quiff.

Blaine walked up to us and immediately tried to walk away when he saw the man, but Killian pulled him back by the arm.

“Can I help you, Lockwood?” The man chuckled, and his eyes went to me for a split second before returning to Killian.

“You know I do have a first name..”

“Which I do not care to say. Now, can I help you with something?”

“…Why don’t we uh.. speak in one of the backrooms? I’m sure we will be able to discuss a little more than out here.” Killian looked around and started walking. Calvin followed after him, and I saw a few men standing off to the side go along with him. Following behind them, Blaine came by my ear, making me flinch.

“Calvin is a very idiotic person if you ask me.” I turned to him as we continued to walk.

“How so?”

“Only an idiot would try to start a conversation with Killian without his notice or whenever he’s in his no-bullshit mode. Calvin loves to speak to him in both… the only person he actually tolerates doing that is me.” I nodded my head, and we entered a secluded hallway.

“He also likes to challenge Killian to play pool… which is like making a baby race a cheetah. Not only would the cheetah win, obviously, but it would tear the baby to shreds. Killian has never lost a game in his life. Even the best of the best can’t beat him.” He continued, and we entered another room, which I could only explain as a wealthy man’s idea of what a man cave should look like. Killian put his hand on my back and walked me over to sit on one of the sofas.
