“Everything,” I replied almost absentmindedly, and she looked down as her blush went all the way up to her ears, and she bit her lip. Again, I had to look away because that lip bite did strange things to me. After a few moments, I was about to say something, but she spoke.

“I’m 22 years old. I live alone with Delilah. I work two jobs and… I don’t have any more contact with my family.”

“Why?”

She shrugged. “I guess they just had better things to do than to worry about me.” I decided not to push the subject any further and changed it.

“Any hobbies?”

“I read and dance… Pretty obvious by my jobs,” she laughed, and I smirked. Her laugh was like a melody that she was singing along to. There was something about her essence that just made me want to be closer. I realized I was staring too long when she moved her hair behind her ear as she looked down. Clearing my throat, I looked down at my Rolex to see it was already past noon.

Standing up, I fixed my suit and pushed the chair back into the table. She stood up as well and held her hands behind her back. I internally smirked as her body language told me exactly what she felt about me. If she were to cross her arms in front of her, she would’ve been uncertain about me or uninterested. But the fact that she opened herself towards me and exposed herself rather than hide tells me she feels safe in my presence.

“Again, Brielle, I’m sorry I have to cut our conversation short. I need to get back to the office. Hopefully, we will get to see each other again… Under different circumstances.” She smiled softly and nodded. It looked like she wanted to tell me something, but she didn’t say anything. I nodded at her, and I could tell she really wanted to say something by the way she fidgeted. Nevertheless, I turned away and walked towards the door. Not even five seconds passed before my assumption was correct, and she spoke.

“You can have my number… Only if you want it.” I turned to her and smirked as she looked down and rocked back and forth. I walked over to her as she continued to ramble adorably.

“I-I mean, if you don’t want it, that’s fine too. I just thought maybe if you did want to meet again, y-you could call me… or not, it’s fine either way—” She stopped as I took out my phone and held it out for her. She looked up at me and took the phone slowly as her blush never refused to leave her face. Placing my hands in my pockets, I watched silently as she put her number into my phone.

She held it back to me timidly, and I put it back in my pocket. It seemed that I got a little closer than I intended because she was less than a foot away from me. I stared into her eyes and saw her pupils dilate slightly. I already knew mine were dilated, but they were not at their fullest potential just yet. Before things started to get out of hand, I spoke up.

“I’ll see you later, darling.” She shook herself from her trance and took a small step back.

“Okay… Bye, Killian.” Just the way my name rolled off her tongue made me feel a very unfamiliar feeling. However, I turned and walked away before I did anything I would regret. I saw Delilah and the older man sitting at the front desk, and she waved goodbye to me happily.

“Buh-bye, Killy!!”

“Goodbye, sweetie.” I chuckled, and she turned back to the coloring book. As I walked towards the door, I could feel the eyes of the man lingering on me, and I glanced back at him for a second before leaving the library. Right in the front was George, who was waiting patiently.

“You know where to go, George.” He nodded his head, and I entered the car. I turned on my phone and scrolled through the many contacts to see Brielle’s number. She had just saved it as Brielle, and I contemplated whether to text or call her to give her my number. I decided not to, as it would be too obvious that I was growing interested in her.

Going through my emails, I thought to myself. The number of emails I receive daily can be quite overwhelming. The only people answering them are me and my secretary, Anna. Sure, we could handle them on our own, but I’d prefer to direct my efforts toward enhancing the overall efficiency of my company.

Since the fall season is now upon us, I am going to be out of the country for the most part. I couldn’t just bring Anna, as that would mean I was transporting one-third of my business worldwide, which wouldn’t be acceptable. Thinking briefly, I pulled out my phone as a brilliant idea struck me. Without hesitation, I dialed Anna, and she promptly answered on the first ring.

“Hello, sir.”

“Anna, I need you to tell the press that the CEO of KR Inc. is looking for a personal assistant. The interviews will be this Friday, so clear my schedule and push it all to Saturday.”

“Alright, sir, and how soon do you want this statement to be visible?”

“As soon as possible,” I urged, as I already had an idea of who I wanted to be my little personal assistant.

Brielle

I ran out of the bathroom and grabbed Delilah for the fourth time. “Delilah Newman, you march straight into that bathroom to brush your teeth right now. If you don’t, I’ll tell Madam Alexandrova that you will not be dancing this afternoon. Is that what you want?” She shook her head and sighed.

“No, Bribri.” She turned around and walked back into the bathroom. I sighed as I returned to the bedroom to pack our dance bag. This afternoon, we will be at the dance studio until seven. Delilah will take two classes today: Classical ballet with Madam Alexandrova, a Russian woman who owns the studio, and contemporary ballet with me.

She only had to be there for an hour and thirty minutes, but I had five classes to teach today. Mr. Burkley knows we have classes on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, so he lets me leave around three. Sometimes, he wants me to leave earlier to get some rest, but that wouldn’t be fair to him if I did.

I finished packing our bag and threw my hair in a pony. Delilah came out of the bathroom fully dressed and handed me the hairbrush so I could do her hair. I checked the time and practically squealed as it was 7:45 AM, and my shift started at 8 AM.

“Come on, baby. It’s time to go.” She grabbed my backpack for me, and I got our dance bag and lunch bag. We walked out of the apartment, and I locked the door. On the way, I held Delilah’s hand as we talked about her favorite things.

“Bribri?” She said softly.

“Yes, Dede?”
