“You’re awfully affectionate today…” I muttered as her hand traveled down my neck, and she laughed.

“And you aren’t, Mr. Russel?” She asked, and I shook my head at her truthful words and sighed.

“How’s my little Delilah doing?” I questioned, and she responded, both of her hands now resting on mine, which still held her waist.

“She’s feeling a lot better now.” I nodded and placed my head on her shoulder.

“Something on your mind, champ?” She asked, and I spoke. “Calvin invited us to the gala he’s hosting for his son.” She froze and turned around to face me, still in my arms.

“Why?”

“Blaine and I think it’s a part of his upcoming plans.”

“Do you want to go?” She asked, and I shook my head.“Of course not.”

“I think we should go..”Annoyingly, Blaine said the exact same thing..

“Why?” I asked, and she shrugged.

“I’m sure you can figure out what he’s plotting and scheming, so it’s not a bad idea just to show up.” Nodding my head, I placed my hand on the side of her face and caressed her cheek, which, in turn, made her face redden slightly.

“What if I told you we were going to Japan this weekend?”

She narrowed her eyes at me as she spoke. “I would tell you that it’s not on your schedule and that you’re not waking me up in the middle of the night to hop on your private jet,” I smirked, silently watching her, and she crossed her arms while continuing. “Why are we going to Japan?”

“For a few things, we’ll also be stopping by Italy, France, and South Korea… but the dates aren’t finalized.”

She sighed. “Is this all a part of your genius plan to become the richest man on the planet?”

“Nope. These are just a few assets to the plan. I need to take down my father first.”

“Killian, if I remember clearly, he’s handing his business over to you, so there isn’t really any competition.”

“Of course, there’s a competition between us. There has always been one.”

“Mhmm.. sure there is.”

I gave her waist a slight squeeze. “I hope you haven’t forgotten about our dinner tonight..” I muttered sensually, and she shook her head as she spoke. “It’s not fair.”

“What isn’t?”

“You know I wouldn’t have been able to say no..” She said, pouting her cute little lip, and I chuckled.

“Well, why else do you think I used that method?” I asked, and she sighed, giving me thelookagain. The same look she’d given me before, which had me questioning our relationship and what she meant to me.

She whispered, “You’re unpredictable, Mr. Russel.”

I bit my lip as I pulled her closer. “That I am, Ms. Newman.”

Chapter twenty-seven

Killian

I stood by the stairs, waiting for Brielle to finish getting ready. I had planned to take her to a restaurant named Midnight Lotus. It was quite expensive, with appetizers costing around $200 and reservations being $300, but I couldn’t think of a better place to take her.

I was well acquainted with the restaurant manager, so we had an advantage regarding reservation schedules and meal preparation. As I looked down at my phone, I sighed in frustration as I received a message from Calvin.

Lockwood: Hello, Killian. I’ve noticed you’ve been avoiding my calls, but no matter. I want to formally invite you to my son’s gala this Friday, as it would make me very pleased if you and Brielle were to come. I’m sure Blaine has already informed you of this since I sent him the invitations. And if you do decide to come.. I’m sure I’ll have enough surprises to make your time worthwhile. Tata.
