“Still on this goddamn holiday, I see,” I muttered, and she scoffed as she shifted on my lap. I held her waist in my hands to refrain her from moving too much, and she spoke.

“Yes, I am. Why don’t you want to celebrate? I thought you were fine with it,” she asked, and I darted my eyes over to my phone as I received a text message from Blaine. I picked it up and looked back at Brielle as she continued to glare at me.

“Don’t you think it’s pretty meaningless? Holidays in general? Sit around with people you see all the time to celebrate something that could be celebrated any day?” I questioned as she narrowed her eyes at me.

“Killian, that’s the point of holidays! It’s about family and coming together to-” I blocked her out as she continued her cute little rant, and I opened the message from Blaine.

Blaine: I’ve just received intel about the tracker you placed on Eugene. It just went out this morning. We believe he’s just figured out it was on him and broke it. For the last few days, he’s been staying at an abandoned warehouse a few miles away from the city. He may know that Brielle is out of the country. Once we return, we need to get to his location before he relocates.

Placing my phone on the table, I turned my attention back to Brielle and cut her rant off as I spoke. “Fine, we’ll celebrate.. We have a few days to spare anyway.”

Her face contorted. “Did you just say that to make me stop, or are you speaking the truth?” I gritted my teeth as I cleared my throat and spoke.

“Of course, I’m telling the truth. We’ll even leave Japan early so you can prepare for it all.. don’t forget you still owe me a little something in return for this.” I recalled, and she rolled her eyes.

“I’m sure that is again the only reason why you agreed.” I gave her another kiss on her lips.

“You bet it is.” She smiled and stood up.

“Alright, well, I better let you get back to work.” I sent her a wink, and she walked out of the room. I picked up my phone again and saw that my father was still there. Taking it off of mute, I spoke. “Sorry about that. Something just came up, and I got a bit carried away.”

“You know, Killian, it’s not that hard to tap into a phone… Much less my son’s. A few button pushes here and there, a favor or two from my on-hand tech guy, and there you have it. It’s like that mute button never existed. Now I know you, Killian. You don’t celebrate any holiday willingly, much less while agreeing to it in advance.. what’s the catch?”

“It’s quite a story to tell if you want me to start from scratch-”

“Well then, I guess we’ll discuss it during ourThanksgivingdinner.”

I rolled my eyes at his failed attempt to intentionally provoke me. “You’re not invited.”

“I’m sure Brielle welcomes my presence, so I may as well just stop by.”

“Don’t test my patience, father.”

“How can I test something non-existent?”He asked, and I sat up, ready to shoot back a reply, when I heard another knock at the door.

Looking over my shoulder, I saw Delilah standing there. I quickly ended the phone call, and she walked towards me. “Good morning, Delilah.”

“Hi, Killy.”

“You know Bribri just came in here and gave me a hard time. Are you going to do the same?” I chuckled as she held onto my arm and threw her leg over one of mine to climb onto my lap.

“I don’t think so.” She said as she desperately tried to pull herself up. She placed her feet back on the ground and huffed.

“Want some help there?” I asked, and she nodded with a smile on her face. I picked her up easily and sat her in my lap. She laid back on my chest, and I returned to work.

“Killy?” She spoke, and I responded as I read an email. “Yes, my darling?”

“Do you like Bribri?” She asked, and I nodded. “Of course I do.”

“Do you likelikeBribri?” She questioned again, and I looked at her for a split second before returning to the computer.

“I don’t have to answer that question.”

“Why not? Is it because you.. like like…LIKEher?”

I turned her around to face me as I leaned back from my computer. “Why do you feel the need to interrogate me? Have I done something wrong?” I asked, and she shook her head as she giggled.

“It’s just that… I think she might likelikeyou,” She said, whispering the last part as if it were a secret.
