"Right, of course. I totally agree." My voice was higher than normal, and the words rushed out.

He smiled and took a step toward me. "Okay, so you agree that should be the last time?"

My heart fell and flopped around on the floor. "I do."

"Okay," he said.

"Okay," I repeated, and took a deep breath, trying to pull myself together.

He nodded and turned to put the dishes in the sink. "We'll have to do dinner again. It makes Hailey so happy. "

"Yeah. The feeling is mutual, and the meatloaf was great," I replied, trying to sound breezy and not like a crazy person.

"Thanks, my mom's recipe."

"Nice," I replied and tried to keep the weirdness at bay. He washed dishes and I dried them and put them away.

"Do you want to hang out or something?" he asked.

"No, I need to get back home and do some work."

"Oh, okay. Well, thanks for coming over."

"Thanks for the invite."

I turned and walked out, trying not to run. When I was safely back in my house, I let out a shaky breath. My growing feelings for Jake were real and he wanted to keep things purely fictional.

Collecting my thoughts, I said aloud, "I can handle this." I took another steadying breath.

I just needed to ignore the way he kissed me and held me. Ignore the way his hands made me feel.

And... fuck. I was in over my head.

JAKE

"Jake, we need to talk." Principal Walker attempted his best stern expression, which unfortunately made his normally jolly face resemble a constipated garden gnome.

Fuck, what now?

I had just gotten into the school Monday morning. I was late and things with Molly had me off my game. I said goodbye to Hailey and followed him to the office.

When we entered his office, I asked, "What's up?" Morgan sat in there with her laptop. She looked nervous which didn't put me at ease.

"There's been a complaint filed against you," he said once his office door closed.

"What the hell for now?"

"Jake, calm down," Morgan said, her tone soft and soothing.

"Okay, I'm sorry. But if this about those dating profiles, I have nothing to do with them. I swear, you can check all my devices. I've never—"

Walker cut me off as he plopped in his office chair, tenting his fingers together looking like a daytime talk show psychologist. "I'm not sure what's going on with you. But we take sexual harassment complaints very seriously."

"Who?" Please don't say Molly. She wouldn’t have, would she?

"A fellow teacher, but I can't name names."
