“Exactly.” I shake my head. “He didn’t even talk to me about it first. Just… went and did it.”

“This is Junior Morgan’s world, Connor. You know that. We just live in it.” Courtney shrugs. “It’s the same with me and Mom, too, ya know. I’m already seeing forum posts crying nepotism since she’s been buds with Brywood for decades. What people don’t know is that I auditioned under an alias, but no… I couldn’t possibly have earned the role on my own. Alyssa Morgan must have made calls.”

I flex instinctively. Assholes are lucky to be anonymous on the internet. “That sucks,” I say.

“Whatever. It’s fine,” she says, quoting me with a smile. “We are the spawn of legends, little brother. If we surpass them, people will say, of course. Look who raised them. If we fall short, people will say, of course. How could they possibly live up? Either way, they look good.”

“Then what are we supposed to do?” I ask.

“The same thing everyone else does: whatever the fuck we want.”

I sigh, letting it sink in as Kelly passes by us on his way toward the desk. “Hey, Kelly,” I say.

“Sup, man.”

Courtney smiles. “Kelly.”

He nods at her. “Princess.”

I watch him go, confused. “Kelly is Delta Xi?”

“No,” she says with a smirk.

I cringe. “Court.”

“What?”

“He’s dad’s employee.”

“So? He’s hot.” Another shrug as I continue my grimace. “What? I come in for a late night burn. No one’s around but him. Endorphins rushing. Adrenaline pumping. Things happen.”

Things happen.

Judging based on the last twenty-four hours of my life, I can’t say she’s wrong.

“Speaking of…” Courtney grins, somehow reading right through my expression. “How are things with Dana?”

Don’t kiss and tell.

“There are no things with Dana.”

She snorts. “Sure.”

“No, really, we’re…” I look down, lying through my teeth. “We don’t want to over-complicate things.”

“It’s only as complicated as you make it, little brother,” she teases. “And besides…” With a glance over her shoulder, she finds Kelly with a sneaky smile. “No one has to know.”

My sister walks away, heading toward the spin bikes. I hope.

I consider her words, but the pit in my stomach remains.

Brothers don’t mess around with each other’s sisters.

Sorry, Courtney. But you’re wrong.

This could get very complicated.
