I groan again when it’s quickly replaced with his cock, the thick shaft pushing deep inside me as he grips my hip and angles me just right. We move in a slow, dreamlike dance, his length filling me again and again. My blood begins to race, my heart pounding as need spirals inside me.

Jesse senses it, his hips moving faster as his lips sear the skin of my throat. I arch my neck, offering what I know he wants. I want it, too, so desperate for the earth-shattering explosion his bite invokes.

I bite my lip as his teeth sink into my flesh, holding my breath to prevent the scream of ecstasy that courses through me as I come. Even though I’m lost in a sea of pleasure, some small part of my brain realizes that if I scream, Steph will come rushing in here, probably with a lamp or something to rescue and defend me.

I lose that thought as Jesse’s mouth sucks hard against my skin and his cock throbs inside me with his own release. Another orgasm rockets through me, and I can’t suppress the moan that erupts from me. Jesse continues to move, drawing out the release until I’m boneless and sated. Then, he licks the wound on my neck, sealing and healing it before pulling back to stare into my eyes.

“Thank you, Eden.”

“No. Thank you,” I respond with a contented sigh.

He chuckles, bucking his hips forward and filling me so deeply, I gasp. “Do you want another?”

Unable to speak, I nod, and his grin turns devilish. His hand slips beneath my shirt, his fingers pinching my nipple as he pumps his hips shallowly. I flinch at the intensity of it, my oversensitive flesh tingling as he rolls the nub between his fingers. Electricity zips from the spot straight to my core, and my heel digs into his ass, urging him to push deeper.

“I love you, Eden Walsh,” he whispers, and my core clenches around his cock as a third orgasm rockets through me.

I manage to keep quiet save for the harsh exhales as I try to catch my breath. Jesse’s hand slips from beneath my shirt to curl around me and rub my back as the aftershocks start to wane.

“I love you, too,” I whisper when I regain the ability to speak.

We cuddle for a few minutes, and I groan in protest when Jesse rolls away from me, pulling his cock free as he flops over onto his back. Turning his head, he meets my gaze.

“I have to resume my search today. My father isn’t getting any better, and I need to find the witch or witches responsible for his condition if I have any hope to save him.”

“Of course,” I say quickly, then frown. “What are we going to do about Steph?”

I’ve been insistent on going with him on these excursions, but I can’t leave Steph here on her own. I also have no idea how I’d explain the need to stay cooped up in these rooms all day. And her coming with us is out of the question. It wouldn’t take her long to realize we’re not just sightseeing.

“We’re going to have to split up,” he says, confirming the conclusion I was already coming to. “Maybe a beach day? I can drop you off in Venice or Malibu for a few hours while I continue to search Hollywood.”

“Will we be safe?” I ask, my voice small and etched with concern.

“You will be,” he says firmly. “I’ll be sending Erik and Leif to watch over you.”

I try to imagine the two ancient Vikings in board shorts, lying in the sand and soaking up the sun, but I just can’t picture it. I nod in acceptance, though, because as much as I want to stick by Jesse’s side and help him save his dad, I know I can’t. Not with Steph around. It would be putting her in the line of fire.

And even though I hate to admit it, even to myself, I’ve lost trust in her. Her recent choices––starting with the one to fly here without telling me––have been extremely suspect. And whether she’s lost all her good sense or gained the knowledge of who, and what, she really is, she’s a liability to Jesse’s mission.

Plus, a little alone time––even if that time is being observed by a couple of hulking Viking vampires––is in order for Steph and me. Maybe I can get her to open up and tell me what’s going on with her. Because I know my friend, and I know something is up.

It may not be directly connected to her witchy DNA, but something is going on. Something that’s making her act out of character. And I’m going to figure out what it is.

Jesse hangs out in the bedroom to keep watch while I take a shower. I miss having him in here with me, but making sure Steph doesn’t wander again is more important. I make short work of washing myself, shaving, and shampooing my hair, then dry off and get dressed before walking back out into the bedroom with a fresh towel wrapped around my head. My eyes immediately search the space for Jesse, widening when they land on him.

He’s standing by the window, looking out. Steph is standing very close to him, her hand on his forearm as she giggles and bats her eyelashes. I blink my own eyes a few times, trying to clear my vision and make sure I’m seeing what I think I’m seeing.

Jesse’s back is stiff as a board, and I have no doubt he knows I’m watching. Hell, anyone with human hearing would’ve heard me open the bathroom door, except maybe someone who’s preoccupied with flirting.

With. My. Mate.

My vision turns red as I take a step forward, a possessive streak I’ve never felt taking control of my mind and body. As if he senses what’s coming, Jesse gently extricates his arm from Steph’s grasp and turns to greet me.

“Eden,” he says with a forced smile.

Steph’s body goes rigid for a split second, then relaxes before she turns to face me. She looks angelically innocent, her hazel eyes bright as she gives me a warm greeting.

“Good morning! Can you believe how gorgeous it is here? I was just telling Jesse how beautiful the view is from this window. Come see.”
