Shit. This is the donor.

Even after watching Steph eat for the last hour, I forgot all about my promise to feed myself when I got back. I clench my hands into fists as tension fills me. I can’t believe Jesse brought a male donor. Making him come with my bite would be so much worse than a female.

Jesse stalks forward, pulling me into a tight hug. Dipping his head, he whispers words of encouragement into my ear so Matt won’t hear.

“You’ve got this, my love. Just focus on the act of feeding, and don’t think about me, at all.”

“That’s easier said than done,” I say drolly, and Jesse chuckles.

Pulling away, he uses a louder voice, saying, “I’ve already explained to Matt that you’re new at this, and he’s prepared to stop you if anything goes…wrong.”

“You told him?” I gasp, my eyes widening.

He shakes his head and leans closer, whispering, “Not that, Eden. I wouldn’t betray your trust like that.”

The indignation drains from me. Of course, Jesse wouldn’t tell a complete stranger that I made my last donor orgasm on accident. He knows how badly that would embarrass me.

“You’ve got this,” he whispers against my temple, then steps aside and presses his hand against my lower back, urging me forward.

Matt gives me a genuine smile, then tilts his head to the side, offering up his throat. Venom pools in my mouth, and I swallow the burning fluid down before slowly approaching the bed and sitting next to him. I spare one last glance at Jesse, and he gives me an encouraging smile.

Swallowing again, I close my eyes and lean forward. Matt’s slow, steady heartbeat pounds in my ears, letting me know he’s not afraid or even excited. This is a job to him, a clinical transaction, and if he can see it that way, so can I.

Opening my mouth, I bite his flesh. He stiffens for a split second before his entire body relaxes, my venom giving him that shot of ecstasy like a needle full of narcotics to the vein. His blood fills my mouth, ratcheting up the hunger I barely noticed before. Jesse was right. I needed sustenance, but I didn’t let myself admit it because of what happened before.

I swallow greedily, the blood making me feel strong and alive as it hits my stomach. Matt doesn’t make a sound or even move, and I continue to drink as energy buzzes through my body.

“Eden, that’s enough.”

Jesse’s firm voice breaks through the euphoria, and I quickly pull away. After swallowing the remaining blood in my mouth and clearing my throat, I lean over and quickly lick the wound on Matt’s neck to heal it.

He gives me a smile, and I notice his black pupils now dominate the hazel of his irises. He’s high as a kite, but his bliss doesn’t seem at all sexual in nature. I look over at Jesse, and he smiles, mouthing the words, “Good job.”

Pulling out his phone, he taps at the screen a few times before looking over at Matt. “The money has been sent. Thank you for your service.”

Matt’s head shakes as if he’s trying to clear it, then he smiles. “My pleasure.”

He stands, and Jesse walks him to the door. Once he’s gone, Jesse returns to stand in front of me. Leaning over, he braces his hands on the mattress on either side of my hips and presses his mouth to mine in a quick, affectionate kiss.

“You did it,” he says, pride evident in his voice.

“I did, didn’t I?” I say with a smile.

My body is still buzzing with energy, and I know just how I want to expend it. Fisting my hands in his shirt, I pull him on top of me as I lie back across the bed.

“Eden,” Jesse growls as I wrap my legs around him and rub my clit against the ridge of his cock through our clothes.

“I think I deserve a reward for my success,” I say, kissing his neck before scraping my teeth against the sensitive skin there.

And reward me, he did. Several times. Over and over until it was time to meet the others for our trip back to the Grundelier village.

TRUSTING MY GUT

The drive to Terremagie seems longer today than the first time we drove out to explore it. Maybe because I’m on edge, wondering if I’ll pass out again, have another vision, and get answers that are a little clearer…or if I’ll get nothing, making this whole excursion a massive waste of time.

No. It’s not a waste. We don’t have any other leads, and I know in my gut the Grundelier township holds the answers I seek.
