“Are you still dizzy?”

He shakes his head. “Just need another minute.”

“Do you really hate confined spaces that much?”

He shrugs.

I frown. I don’t know what to do for him, so maybe it’s best I leave him be.

“Have you been sleeping okay?”

He frowns.

“I mean, you said it was the elevator, but we’ve traveled up and down the thing heaps of times…”

“It was you,” he blurts out, shocking me.

My eyes go wide as I tuck my hair behind my ears. “Me?” I’m not sure what he means.

He moves his hand to glance sideways at me. “Yes, you.”

“Wait, what did I do?” I squeak. “You’re the one who didn’t reply to my message…”

He clears his throat. “Doesn’t matter.”

“No,” I say sharply, earning me another glare. “Don’t do that, Rock. We’ve been able to be honest with one another. Let’s not change that now. Tell me what I did.”

He sighs. “You didn’t do anythin’. It’s me.”

I frown. Then it clicks. “Were you… Were you worried about me…and Priest?”

He takes another long breath. “I let my mind get away from me.”

I frown, my voice small when I say, “You really think I’d jump into bed with another guy? After what we did?”

He looks away. “I don’t know, I don’t know you, Aspyn. The thought angered me.”

I know he’s being serious when he uses my proper name, and now isn’t the time for kidding around.

“Talk to me,” I say gently. I’m annoyed he thinks I would do that, but I keep that inside for the moment. I can yell at him when he’s better.

“I’m a fuckin’ pussy,” he says, his voice low. “I usually have this under control.”

“What can I do to help?”

“Nothin’.”

I take a deep breath, then ask, “Why do you think I’d sleep with anyone else when it’s you I want, Rock?”

He shifts his gaze to me again. His lips part but no sound comes out.

“I would never do that,” I go on. “I know we’re not exclusive, even though you told me my pussy was yours.” I roll my lips when his lips twitch in turn, fighting a smile. “And I told you I don’t sleep around, that was all true. Maybe it doesn’t seem like it because I flirted with you like a harlot, but it’s only because I wanted you to notice me.”

“Oh, I noticed, Trouble. C’mere.”

He pats his lap, and I gladly crawl onto it.

Staring down at him, he cups my face, one hand running through my newly colored tendrils. “You changed your hair.”
