She flushes the most delightful shade of pink. For some reason, I didn’t expect her to be as innocent as she’s acting, or maybe that’s all it is…an act?

She’s twenty-three, and from what I’ve read, she’s lived a very sheltered life. The typical little rich kid who’s never had to lift a finger or do anything.

I’m sure someone like me has her second guessing what the fuck she’s doing here, and we’re not even on the freeway yet.

“Does that surprise you?”

I like how her eyes blink at me as if she has no idea what to think. I like her innocence. It’s a turn on.

Her photo and mugshot do her absolutely no justice. She’s hot.

Her hair is the same blonde as the photos but it’s more unruly. She has a small amount of makeup on, but not a lot. Her eyes, though…bright blue with flecks of green. She is stunning, even if she is a good foot shorter than me and could do with putting on a pound or two.

“I, uh…it’s not really any of my business.”

“I’m a truth teller,” I say. “Don’t like bullshit, and if you ask me a question, you’ll get an honest answer. Usually, it’s straight between the eyes, but on the flip side, you always know where you stand.”

She nods like she’s still comprehending my words, then says, “So…you and me…” She flicks her pointer finger between the two of us. “We’re…uh, you’re my new bodyguard?”

I snort a laugh. “I wouldn’t go that far, but I am the guy who’s been assigned to your security for the duration of the trip. So…sorry, Trouble, you’re stuck with me.”

Her lips part as her eyes dart to my mouth, and I divert my gaze back to the road.

Those pretty lips, and even prettier eyes, don’t do anything to dull down my erection.

And she smells like buttery popcorn. For fuck’s sake. I have no idea how I’m not gonna put my fuckin’ hands on her while we’re holed up together in this swanky new apartment building that I’ve been assigned to. This won’t be a hardship at all.

“Trouble?” She practically pouts when she says it.

I rub my chin. “You look like trouble.”

She snorts. “I thought the same thing about you.”

I glance at her again and I laugh, too. I can’t say I’ve had this kind of easy banter with a woman before in my life. I mean, chicks and I aren’t friends.

We’re there for one reason and one reason only.

Aspyn, however, she’s a different kettle of fish. I didn’t choose to be here, yet I’m glad I am. For now, anyway. She’s too good to be true.

“Me?” I thumb my chest like I’m the Archangel Gabriel. “Do I look like I’d cause anybody any grief?”

She bites down on her bottom lip, then says, “Only wayward alligators, maybe?”

I snort.

She’s funny too. Sassy. Hot as fuck. The whole damn package. No wonder Cash was so adamant. Now I get it.

My wood isn’t gonna go down for days.

I don’t see how staying away is gonna help me. I’m fuckin’ assigned to her day and night.

She’s just landed in my lap like some wayward little deer who needs steering back to the herd…not left out in the open for guys like me.

The big bad wolf.

I grin at the idea, knowing I’m not gonna touch her. She’d freak out anyway. She’s not ready for a man like me.

Chicks like her only fuck country club types; the ones who already have a fortune before they’re even old enough to spend it. They wear their cashmere sweaters wrapped around their necks and drive fancy sports cars that they don’t know how to handle.
