“Aspyn,” he starts, his voice a mixture of irritation and controlled calmness. It’s like he can’t work out which way to be with me. “You don’t have to get all haughty on me just because I said somethin’.”

Haughty?

Oh my god, this man has the nerve!

“Haughty?” I repeat.

“Yep. It’s a word.”

“For your information, haughtiness is the least of the problems that you should be worried about with me.”

“Is that right?”

“Yes. I’m not as dumb as I look, which may come as a shock to you, since you’re probably used to women who have silicone instead of a brain.”

“Never said you were dumb. And I’m not that much of a fan of silicone.”

“Really? How surprising.”

“I think you’d be surprised by a lot of things if you knew me.”

“How cryptic.”

“Not really. Just sayin’ it like it is.”

I snort. I should move, but he makes no attempt to back off, so neither do I.

“What’s so funny?” he prompts.

“You certainly have no problems telling it like it is.”

“I find it’s the only way to be. Saves fuckin’ around.”

“I guess it does. If you’re you.”

“Meanin’?”

“Oh, nothing.”

I go to skip past him, but he moves the same way. “Elaborate.”

Holy fuck. His voice is so deep…husky…

I hate the way my body reacts to him when all I want to do is run away.

“No.”

He grins. “Why? Scared?”

I steel my back. “Nope.”

“Your body betrays you, doesn’t it, Trouble?”

The way he says that. I wish it was a lie…

I fold my arms over my breasts as his gaze lands there. It’s no secret my nipples are pebbled, but he needs to keep his eyes at eye level, not on my chest.

“Have a good look?” I counter.
