I felt like a new world was opening up right in front of me. If I grabbed onto it, I was going to enjoy the ride of a lifetime.

All of it centered around Gravor.

The scent of coffee reached me. Was he up already?

I slid out of Asher’s bed and after grabbing clothing from my room—and finding my bed empty, though made—I ducked into the bathroom. One shower and my teeth brushed later, I walked down the hallway and into my kitchen.

Gravor stood at the counter whisking something in a bowl. He wore my two shirts and swayed his hips while whistling between his teeth, keeping pace with his whisks. “I hope you’re hungry.”

“What are you making?” I rounded the island and went over to the coffeemaker, my brain sluggish and in dire need of caffeine.

“Quiche. I found broccoli and cheese in your fridge, plus sausage crumbles in the freezer. I hope it’s okay that I raided your food.”

“Of course. Feel at home.” After pouring a cup of coffee and adding a dash of cream, I propped my hip against the counter.

He poured the egg mixture into a pre-baked crust.

“I didn’t have any crusts in the freezer that I know of,” I said after sipping my coffee and sighing at how amazing it tasted. I could feel the caffeine being sucked from my belly and into my veins already.

“They’re much nicer if made from scratch. Flakier and all-around better tasting.” He flashed me a grin that made my bones melt. “Don’t you agree?”

Everything in my kitchen was tasty—including him.

“Honestly, I’ve only used the frozen stuff,” I said.

“Then you’re in for a treat.”

I was beginning to think I was. It wasn’t hard to remember how it was between us, how in tune to him I felt back then. How he’d made me cry out in pleasure multiple times in one night.

My bones tingled, and he froze while sprinkling cheese on top of the quiche. After laying the packet of cheese down, he strode over to stand in front of me. He took my coffee cup from my limp fingers and placed it on the counter. Then he cupped my face and tilted it up until our gazes met.

“What will you do if I kiss you?” he murmured, flames licking behind his dark eyes.

“Kiss you back,” I croaked.

He leaned over and gently captured my mouth with his own.

Moaning, I pressed myself against him, losing control of myself from one simple touch.

His arms went around me, and he pulled me closer, pressing me against his entire frame.

I drank in his heat. I lost myself in him just like I’d done five years ago. It felt like we’d never been apart.

His tongue dueled with mine, reminding me that this man might’ve been beaten down at times, but he’d been forged anew in a fire that would never touch him again. He’d risen from the ashes stronger than he’d been before.

He lifted his head. “Now that’s a nice way to start a morning.”

While I leaned against the counter to keep from sliding onto the floor, he turned and opened the oven, sliding his quiche carefully inside.

I stared at his ass, wishing my shirt would slide a little more to the right, that it—

He peeked over his shoulder and winked as he closed the oven door and straightened. “Enjoying the view?”

Why had I ever thought this guy had been defeated?

“While it cooks, I could run into town and pick up a few things,” I said, my voice still shaky from his earthshattering kiss. “Pants, a few shirts, sneakers. I can measure your feet and around your waist. Your inseam.” I frowned, my face overheating. “Though you might want to measure that.” My gaze shot to his groin. It wasn’t hard to remember what he looked like—what he felt like sinking inside me.

He glanced down at my shirt, and his low laugh rang out. “I promise I’d hold still while you did it, but I can see your point.”
