I needed to make sure it was the right time for my son, and that wouldn’t be during their first introduction—which was coming up fast. I had to go get him at Mom’s soon.

I slid from the bed, yanked my dress down, and raced into the bathroom. There, I took in my flushed cheeks in the mirror, the wanton, satisfied look in my eyes.

Damn, but he’s sure scratched my itch.

Funny, though. As satisfied as I was, I wanted it all. Him looming over me like he had so long ago. His cock deep inside me, driving me out of my mind. His groans of pleasure echoing in my ears as he thrust hard and fast within me.

We couldn’t have that until he knew everything.

“Tell him,” I whispered into the mirror. “Don’t keep anything back. He’s had a tough time, and he doesn’t need to learn you’ve been keeping something from him.”

I would tell him. Soon.

When I left the bathroom, I found him standing in the kitchen, nursing a cup of coffee while staring out the back door window.

“Anything good out there?” I asked, hating that my voice was shaky. It didn’t come from my mixed feelings about what we’d just done. Nope, it was because I was trying to drum up the nerve to be honest with him.

“Everything good’s inside here already,” he said, turning to lean against the door. “Are you all right?”

“I just had an amazing orgasm. Maybe I should ask you that question since you didn’t.”

His low chuckle rang out. “You should’ve seen my boxers.”

“Oh, jeez.” I laughed with him, and that lightened my mood and made my nerves stop spiraling.

“I don’t want you feeling uncomfortable about what we did,” he said softly.

“I don’t.” I sighed. “Not really. It’s just . . .” Tell him!

He waited patiently.

“I need to tell you something,” I said. A couple of things, but I’d start first with us.

He nodded and lowered his coffee cup onto the counter beside him.

“I knew you before you were captured. We had sex,” I blurted out. Cool, Mazie. Really cool way of sharing such delicate information.

He blinked a moment. “I . . . I . . .” He pinched his eyes shut, and when he opened them again, they blazed like his inner fire was roaring through him.

“Mate,” he growled, and I sensed he wasn’t the only one speaking. I felt his dragon in his voice too.

He stalked toward me with that fire still smoldering. Latching onto my upper arms, he stared down at me with an intensity that made something shift sideways inside me.

“Yes,” he breathed. “Yes.”

“You remember?”

“Only bits and pieces. I thought you felt familiar, that I’d seen your face before, but I figured I had to be misremembering.”

“It was only one night.” One that changed my world for a lifetime. “We met in a bar, which is kind of a cliché, but so what? We talked for hours and then I spontaneously invited you to my apartment. I don’t do stuff like that. Never did and haven’t since. I want you to know that. But that night . . .” I shook my head, remembering how attracted to him I’d been, how right it felt between us. “I sensed we had to be together. I felt that all the way to my bones.”

“You’re my fated mate. I don’t remember if I knew then.”

“Fated?”

“As in destined. You’re mine forever, and I’m yours.”

I shook my head, unable to deal with that yet. I needed to spit it all out first. “You left, and I thought you’d call. I gave you my number.”
