“I will. Sleep, mate.” His soothing voice lulled me. It was all I could do to . . .

I woke in his arms and with the early morning sun slanting through the window behind me.

He still slept, and that gave me a great chance to stare at him, admire him. Yes, he had scars, but he’d lived through something horrible. He’d triumphed and showed the world he was a survivor.

I slipped from the bed and padded into the bathroom. I did my teeth before I left but paused in the hallway.

Should I go make breakfast?

Nah, that could wait. Asher loved to sleep in; he wouldn’t be up for at least another hour.

There was still time to be me, not only a mom.

I shut and locked the door, then tiptoed back to bed and slipped into the warm spot I’d left behind, snuggling into Gravor’s chest.

I couldn’t remember when I last had a guy over. Oh, well, actually, I could. It was him. At first, I kept hoping he’d call. Then I discovered I was pregnant. Even when I didn’t hear from him and couldn’t find him to tell him, I couldn’t make myself move on with someone new.

He’d unlocked something inside me, and after that, no one else could fill the spot he left behind.

Being with him like this was precious. Life was going to crowd in much too fast. I’d have to return to work in a few days. It was going to be interesting to watch him and Asher interact. I’d call Gravor a friend and Livy’s uncle. The two children were far apart in age, but Livy was patient with my son. She made time for him and didn’t make him feel as if he wasn’t important. I appreciated that.

To think they were cousins.

We’d have to discuss that end of things too. I assumed we’d tell Zara, Livy, and Kuunik after we told Asher. My—our—son had the right to know first.

At four, he’d be surprised, but I could tell he wished he had a dad like many of his friends. And once he got to know Gravor, he’d be thrilled to hear his new friend was actually his father.

“What are you thinking about?” Gravor asked.

I shrugged. “Logistics.”

“Sounds heavy.”

“Isn’t everything?”

“Not now. We’re lounging in bed with the dawn bathing us, and we’re together. That means whatever comes next, we can handle it.”

“Like breakfast?”

“As the chef in this bed, I assure you I’ll handle that.”

“I want to help. I’m a good cook.”

“Then we’ll do that together too.” He eased away from me and got out of bed, pointing his finger my way. “Hold that position, would you?”

As he left, striding to the door, I called after him. “Do you plan to take a picture of me in this position?” If so, I should’ve showered instead of just combing my hair and washing up at the sink.

He returned smelling minty, locking the door again, and slid into bed with me. Tugging me close, he murmured by my ear. “What should I do with you before our son wakes up, mate?”

Chapter 16

Gravor

“Ithink you should do whatever you please with me,” she said, her eyes glowing with affection.

“Whatever I please?”

“Yup.”
