“Mate,” she agreed with a sigh.

Chapter 17

Mazie

Itugged on my nightie and walked on rubbery legs to the bathroom, poking my head into Asher’s room on my way. Still sleeping. From the way he was shifting around, however, he’d wake soon.

Inside the bathroom, I leaned against the door and ran my palms across my face.

“Fuck, that was amazing,” I whispered. Bumping off the door, I turned on the shower and stepped under the spray. Me and Gravor had jumped right back to where we left off, him giving me complete satisfaction and me falling apart in his arms.

It would be different this time. We’d get to know each other, and anything could happen after that.

He’d love our son as much as I did.

He’d see his brother after being gone for so long.

We’d take this slowly—or not—and see what came next.

Dressed, I went into Asher’s room, finding him stirring. I sat on the side of the bed and stroked his forehead as he woke up.

“Mommy,” he said, smiling. He crawled onto my lap, something I suspected he wouldn’t do for long. He was growing up, and one day soon, he’d decide big boys didn’t cuddle with their moms. I was going to cry when that happened.

“Someone’s staying with us, sweetie,” I said.

He looked up at me. “Another boy I can play with?”

I chuckled. In some ways, maybe. “Nope, he’s a grown-up, though I bet he’d love to play with you.”

He nodded. “What’s his name?”

Daddy, but I couldn’t say that—yet. “Gravor. He’s . . .” Okay, this could work for now. “He’s Uncle Kuunik’s brother.” Since Zara and I were best friends, Asher already called her Auntie. He adored Kuunik and had easily slipped into calling him Uncle.

“Uncle Kuunik’s brother?” Asher frowned, tilting his head. “Is he my uncle too?”

“Not quite. Call him Gravor for now?”

“Okay.”

“He’s staying with us for a while. Auntie Zara and Uncle Kuunik are on their honeymoon. Gravor might move in with them when they get back.” I hoped not. I wanted him to stay here with us.

“Does he like cartoons?”

“I imagine he does.”

“He can watch them with me if he wants.” And just like that, he accepted that someone was staying with us. Kids were so resilient.

He yawned and slipped out of my arms, jogging into the bathroom.

I followed to make sure he brushed his teeth. After, I helped him get dressed in his favorite t-shirt and jeans, and we walked out into the kitchen.

Asher hung against my side, staring at Gravor. Gravor stared just as hard at Asher, and tears shimmered in his eyes. I wasn’t sure my heart could take much more of this, though it would. Soon, the pain of what my favorite guys had missed out on would soften. And when they were the besties I knew they could be, the pain bubble would pop and whatever was inside would melt into the ground, disappearing forever.

“This is Gravor,” I said, nudging Asher forward, though I went with him. It was important that we treat this naturally, like I was introducing him to a friend.

A friend I’d slept with, but same thing, right?

I’d never had anyone over for the night, and Asher would know that.
