“Let’s go then.” Beau bounced to his feet.

“Where?”

“Crypto.com Arena. The Kings play tonight.”

“We should probably lay low,” Ike suggested. “Getting another note. The stalker being in your bedroom.”

“I’m safer not being here then,” Beau said, winking at them.

“Oh, boy.” Myra couldn’t help but smile at him. He was like an oversized, too-talented kid.

“Come on.” He thumped his large palm on the table. “We can’t live in fear. I’m not going to stop living until this guy is found.”

Ike looked to Myra. “He’s got a point,” she said.

He nodded, stood, and offered Myra a hand.

She settled her hand in his, and all the confusion regarding Ike disappeared. Of course he was interested. Of course they could figure out how to keep doing protection details and dating seriously. It wasn’t changing the life plan; it was enhancing it.

He helped her to her feet, keeping his hand around hers.

“And …” Beau’s grin grew. “Bermuda only misses a home game when she’s on location for a movie or on vacation. She loves hockey almost as much as football.” He winked and pranced out of the dining room.

Ike raised his eyebrows but didn’t say anything as they followed Beau out to the garage. Then Ike released her hand and she felt an immediate letdown.

Ike called the security and requested two of them to follow and two to stay and monitor the property. They’d upped the number of guards, but she still felt uneasy. One of the security guards or house staff had to be involved or the Star Stabber was a genius at overriding or evading cameras and sensors.

“Should I change?” Myra asked, gesturing to her white T-shirt, red and white striped shorts, and sandals.

“It won’t be cold in my box,” Beau said.

“But do I look the part of a billionaire football star’s girlfriend?”

“Sure.” Beau shrugged, walking around and climbing into the backseat of the Escalade, obviously anxious to see Bermuda.

“Do you think I look okay?” she asked Ike.

He looked her over carefully. Her breath caught at the heat simmering in his gaze. He swallowed and said, “You look much better than okay.”

She blushed and tucked some hair behind her ear. “Thanks.”

He nodded and opened the rear door. She slid in, wishing she could sit up front with him.

“How are we going to play this?” Beau asked as Ike loaded up, started the car, and pushed the garage remote Beau’s security had given him.

“You and I fake dating for the Star Stabber but not upsetting Bermuda?” Myra asked. “I have no idea. Ike?”

He backed out of the garage and closed it, then met her gaze in the rearview. She could swear there was longing in those eyes.

“Don’t ask me,” he said. “I’m just the real boyfriend wanting to pummel the fake boyfriend for touching my girl.” He winked at her, and she went hot all over. If only she knew what was real and what was fake.

Beau put his hands up. “I’m not touching her right now.”

“Okay. I’ll save the pummeling for later.”

“I’ll look forward to that.” Beau gave a fake shudder and they all laughed.

They drove out of Beau’s gate, a white Maxima following discreetly behind them.
