She smiled and wanted to kiss him. But there would be time for that later.

They’d trained together every day and fought in numerous missions over the past year. Ike trusted her and they were brilliant together in every capacity.

She nodded to him and held her Daniel Defense AR-15 to her shoulder. Ike slammed the butt of his gun into the locked door, and it flung open.

Myra rushed into the dark warehouse, sighting in the first threat and neutralizing it. Ike was right by her side. She felt the thrill of battle but more importantly the rightness of their mission, saving these precious children and returning them to their families.

She and Ike methodically executed like they’d been trained to do, trusting each other like they’d learned to do. Together.

Nothing had ever felt as right as fighting side by side with Ike.

Except for being in his arms and kissing him.

No more targets appeared. Only the sound of children crying in confusion broke the silence.

“We always have success when you lead,” Ike said.

“Of course. I’m the Warrior Woman.”

“And you’re my woman.” His voice was full of pride and love.

“Let’s do a sweep and reassure these little guys. Then you can convince me why I’d want to be your woman.”

He chuckled. “Love you.”

“I love you.”

Then she went left and he went right. These children were safe. Soon, they’d be with their families and Ike and Myra would be back together. Heaven seemed to smile down on them.

Myra had never imagined fulfilling her life’s purpose could be so ideal.

Almost as ideal as her and Ike together.
