Two years later

‘What do you mean married?’ Sophie asked.

‘Well, you know we just, well, we were here and looking into it. And then we realised how easy it would be. And the day was just so glorious and it just felt so right and, yeah, we’re married.’

‘Hi. Hey, wait, what did I miss?” Mya asked as she joined the video group chat.

‘Yeah, tell her, Polly!’ Sophie cried out.

‘We should wait for Paige,’ Polly said, her face slightly flushed with excitement, her smile wide.

‘Why are you so late anyway?’ Sophie asked.

‘I was throwing up in the bread bin. Not recommended,’ Mya said.

The silence that followed spoke volumes.

‘Why the hell did you throw up in the bread bin?’ Sophie finally asked.

‘Because I couldn’t get anywhere else in time,’ Mya said as if that was obvious. ‘Don’t worry, the bread in there had already started to go off.’

‘But Mya, what the hell?’ Polly asked.

‘Oh it’s not like you’ve never done it before,’ Mya said, as Polly shook her head.

The chat pinged as Paige joined. ‘Hi everyone,’ she said as she sat back on her sofa.

‘Are you drunk?’ Polly asked.

‘Erm no,’ Paige replied.

‘Not you — Mya,’ Sophie said.

‘No, not right now. Why?’ Mya asked clearly looking at her own reflection on her device.

‘Why throw up in the bread bin then?’ Polly asked, starting to sound exasperated.

‘Oh Paige, you can give Connie my love and tell her very freaking funny.’ Mya shook her head.

Paige grinned, already knowing what was about to be revealed.

‘What the hell is going on?’ Sophie groaned.

‘So the bread bin is because I’m pregnant. Connie guessed that there’d be a happy little accident for us. So, there you are.’

‘Oh my God, congratulations. Wait, is it congratulations or . . . ?’ Polly asked, her enthusiasm tapering off slightly at the end.

‘It’s congrats. We have to have an heir to carry on our legacy. No, actually, we’re quite excited.’ The look on Mya’s face was soft and hopeful and honestly not a look any of them had seen before. ‘It’s really early days but yeah. Smithy says he can tell it’s a girl.’

The girls all took turns to offer their congratulations and well wishes.

‘Polly, you wanna go ahead and tell everyone the other reason we should be celebrating tonight?’ Sophie said, her voice tight.

Polly threw her hands over her face in what Paige thought was embarrassment but then she caught the new piece.

‘Ahh, is that a wedding ring?’ Mya shouted.

‘Yeah, well we just, it just felt right. So, we did it.’ Polly was grinning, her eyes glistening.
