Mitchell dropped his head, and it took everything I had in me not to cry at the sadness it invoked in the center of my chest. Such a beautiful guy. So much heartache. It wasn’t fucking fair.

"I like you, Cayman." He spoke so quietly I had to lean in closer to hear him properly. "It’s just…"

His voice trailed, lifting off into the salty night breeze.

"You don’t have to explain anything, Mitchell."

He looked at me, and for a moment, it looked like his shoulders relaxed down his back a little. "Thank you."

"And for the record," I added while I still held his gaze. "I like you, too."

His brows wiggled, and I could see the cogs of his mind turning, but I had no idea in which direction they were heading.

"Have you got any plans for tomorrow—actually, today since it’s past midnight?" I asked, hoping to inject a little lightness back into the conversation.

He shook his head. "Nope. I haven’t got any plans for the entire weekend, really."

"Righty oh." I could still taste our kiss on my lips. "I happen to have the day off. Would you like to meet me back here at ten? I’ve got an idea for something fun we could do together."

He nodded, and it made me light up inside that he didn’t wait a second to do it.

"Great," I replied, feeling like I was floating on air.

If I wanted Mitchell, I had to earn his trust.

And believe me, I wanted Mitchell.

I got to my feet and stretched out my hand. His smooth fingers slipped into it as I helped pull him up. "If it’s alright with you, I’d like to walk you back to your room."

I wanted to make it clear that I wouldn’t be doing anything to worm my way inside...either the room, or him. "But I won’t come in or even ask to come in."

He smiled but said nothing, slipping his hand back into mine as we headed back to the resort. When we reached his room, I gave him a delicate—and super respectful—peck on the lips.

I wanted him. I wanted to tear his clothes off him and ravage him all night, but it was more important for me to be a man of my word.

Of course, part of me was disappointed that we wouldn’t be together, at least not tonight. But that look of sheer sadness he'd displayed on the beach had superglued itself into my memory. I couldn’t remember ever feeling my heart clench so tightly.

But the night wasn’t a complete loss. Because after I had turned to leave, Mitchell called out after me. "Hey, Cayman."

I spun around. He looked nervous as he propped himself up against the door. "I really do like you."

My smile stayed on my lips until my head finally landed on my pillow.

MITCHELL

I trudged down to the beach at ten to ten the next morning. I hadn’t brought anything with me other than a towel. Cayman hadn’t mentioned what we’d be doing, but I figured if I needed anything else, I could always quickly duck back to my room to get it.

The kiss with him on the beach last night was...everything. The perfect combination of soft and gentle, yet passionate and fiery. The feel of it lingered under the surface of my skin. I could even feel it now as my feet squeaked as I made my way through the soft sand.

The beach wasn’t too busy, mainly filled with guys from the resort sunbathing. A few navy-blue beach umbrellas were propped up around the place. It was a beautiful sunny day, and I couldn’t wait for whatever surprise Cayman had in store for me.

And then my eyes landed on him.

He was standing facing away from me, wearing just the bottom half of a wetsuit. His uncovered back was tight with muscles, forming a perfect V-shape that led all the way up to his broad shoulders.

"Mitchell, over here!" He turned around and waved enthusiastically.
