I’d have loved to carry her battle marks on my body, evidence of the time she tried to hurt me.

It’s sexy.

No!

“If you want your fucking suitcase, it’s on your bed. If you don’t want your suitcase, I’ll get rid of it. But you’re not to be allowed to wander around the house without permission!” I snarl, and she sniffles, and ignores me.

I don’t care though.

I refuse to be swayed by her tears.

I use my shirt to mop up the bits of blood on my chest, and she seems to be watching me under her eyelashes.

I don’t care though.

Her eyes on me mean nothing.

“What’s the plan?” she asks quietly.

“There is no plan!” I roar, slamming my fist into the wall. She flinches, but then steels her shoulders back, and stands up tall. Tears are dripping down her cheeks, but that doesn’t change the fact that she looks like a goddess.

“There’s no fucking plan,” I repeat, storming forward. “I took you okay. I knew what was going to happen to Atticus and I let it happen. He deserved it.”

“Atticus?” she asks, sounding surprised that I know her mate’s name.

Does she know we’re brothers? That stops my furious tirade for a moment, as I consider her.

The tears have dried up. I fucking knew they were fake. A tool she’s trying to use to manipulate me.

But I won’t fall for it.

“Your mate,” I say, sizing her up. “The Alpha.” She nods slowly and I know she’s also sizing me up.

I don’t know what she knows, and she clearly doesn’t know what I know.

But the last time I trusted someone, the most important person in the world was taken from me.

I won’t ever make that mistake again.

“The Alpha,” I repeat, sniffing subtly to see if I can scent any emotional changes. “Your Alpha.”

“Yes, he is my Alpha,” she says and there’s a mocking kind of lilt to her words. “What about it?”

“Well, I saw you both standing there and I knew you would cripple him in his last moments where he’s dying, not knowing where you are thinking you’re getting to safety, all for me to take you.” I laugh, a horribly deep bitter sound that causes her to shiver. “It’s all that he deserves. He’s a terrible person. A terrible fucking Alpha.”

I shake my head. He’s a terrible brother. That’s the only true thing. He is a good Alpha who protects his people, but I’m not gonna admit that to her.

Because I don’t care if my lies hurt her. That’s my goal.

I want her to suffer.

I want her to be miserable her.

I want her to hate me.

No. It’s more than that.

For both our sakes, I need her to hate me.
