Kingdoms have been built on rubble. So why can’t we do the same? Pick up all the broken pieces and forge them into a new shape, something stronger and impenetrable. Something nobody can break through and something we can’t tear down ourselves.

“Are you saying you forgive me?”

“With everything in me, I forgive us,” I answer without question. “I love you. I could have lost you yesterday before I had the courage to tell you that. We just got you back and I almost lost you again.”

“You love me?” It’s more an astonishing gasp than question, making my smile grow wider.

“I love you.”

His lips seal over mine, the kiss hungry and heated. I hope he always kisses me this way. With this level of need and passion. Winding my arms around his neck, I let him pick me up and carry me to the bed. Our mouths never part during the process, not until he’s splayed on his back and I’m hovering above him.

“I love you too, Isla.”

“But do you forgive us?” It’s the most important thing I need to hear right now. I know he loves me; he’s shown me that. What I need to know is that the past is behind us for good. No more looking back, only forward.

“If I forgive you, do I still get to wash your mouth out with cum?”

“Oh my god.” I laugh, placing my hand over his lips. “Is that all you care about?”

“You know it’s the least of what I care about,” he mumbles through my fingers, his eyes deadly serious.

“I do,” I tell him. Then I kiss him, initiating intimacy with him so he knows I’m all in. My hands pull at the hem of his t-shirt, moving it up to expose more skin for me to rain kisses upon. “I know you, Cillian. I know your heart and your mind. Now I want to get to know your body.”

“You know that, too.”

“Let’s pretend I don’t.”

“I don’t have condoms,” he admits. “I don’t travel with them. Since you.”

Straddled over his waist, I sit straight up.

“When was the last time you were with another woman?”

“Probably a couple of months before I was drafted to the Blades. I don’t exactly keep a diary of my one-night stands,” he says, wincing.

“Who was it?” I don’t want him to say Trina, but I’ll accept it if that’s who it was. I’ll accept it as his past and we’ll move on to our future.

“Her name was Jennifer. I met her at a charity thing for the team,” he says. “Yours was Tyson?”

“Yes,” I say, nodding. “Just after you came back. There hasn’t been another time since. You’re always safe?”

“Always. You?”

“Always.”

“It’s your call, Isla,” he says, his hands finding the softness of my belly where his thumbs rub small circles. “If… it would be different. If there was another surprise, it would be different.”

“I trust you.”

“I won’t let you regret that,” he promises, and I smile.

“I trust you.”

“Then get naked,” he says, yanking to get my shirt up over my head. We’re a tangle of limbs as we undress each other in a rush. But with quick work, he’s leaning his bare back against the headboard as I straddle his lap. “Down, Isla. Slide down on me. Slowly, I want to feel every inch.”

Cillian’s hands cup my ass to aid me while I go as slow as I possibly can which is really hard once I feel his raw tip slide in.

“Fuck.” I exhale hard, dropping my forehead to his. “How does it feel so… much?”
