“MINE!” With a deafening road, I claim her again with my cock and my teeth, both branding her with my seed and my scent, then pulling out and slumping to the floor with her in my arms.

“I think they got the message,” Natalie chuckles, pressing a gentle kiss on my lips and cupping my face in her hands. Her beautiful face comes back into focus, and I marvel again at how lucky I am. “Now we need to make sure they weren’t followed here. And hitch a ride back to shore.”

CHAPTER 40

NATALIE

Chase is downright surly, but at least he’s behaving a little less aggressively toward his friends after well and truly making his point.

As he stoops to retrieve the backpack, I see the score marks I’ve left down his back and smile. He’s not the only one who got a bit carried away.

“I could do with a shower,” I mumble, cleaning up as best I can with some wet clothes and wipes. The air is thick with the smell of sex. As my heat fades, I’m becoming more and more aware of what a sweaty, sticky mess I am. Chase’s hand reaches out and snatches the wipe away as I clean between my thighs.

His eyes glow and fixate on the spot where his seed drips out. “If you get rid of it, I’ll have to fuck you again. I’m warning you, Nat.”

Fucking hell. What do you say to that?

“Chase, I have to have a shower at some point. I’m not going back to Grey Ridge like this.” His displeasure at the idea is weirdly hot and totally crazy all at the same time. “You can stay in my cabin and sex me up any time you want when we get home, but I can’t go around leaking cum all day.”

CHASE: I don’t see why not

This is a first mindlink to remember. I laugh, getting another wipe from the box and gently cleaning up as best I can, ignoring his sulking face. Digging out some soft leggings and a loose t-shirt, I follow Chase outside once I’m dressed, equally unhappy to see his sculpted body hidden under a grey t-shirt and thick black combats.

Tripp surreptitiously glances in my direction when he thinks Chase isn’t paying attention, tossing me a reassuring wink.

“Don’t flirt with her, or I’ll rip your head off. I’m not exactly stable right now.”

“As if that’s anything new.” Undeterred, Tripp extends a hand to me and I lean forward to shake it, resting my palm on the small of Chase’s back to soothe his jealousy.

Van is more reserved, keeping his back to the wall of another cabin and watching closely. “What is this place?” he asks, never taking his eyes off me. I can sense his trepidation. Tripp seems happy to go along with Chase’s lead; Van, not so much. He’s more cautious.

“A refuge, of sorts, for women in need. Which is why I need to be certain nobody saw you come here?”

Shaking his head, Van gestures to the same side of the island where I arrived. “We came in the dead of night, blacked out, nobody saw.”

I admire his confidence, but if there were shifters lurking about; he has no way of knowing whether they’ve left a scent trail or made enough noise for someone to take notice. Only time will tell, but I’ll ask Maude to keep an eye out for anyone lurking around.

“Mitch knows,” Chase says quietly. “He followed you here to make sure you were safe. Just thought you should know.”

Shit. That’s all well and good when there’s no other females around to tempt him, but if he was drawn here in May by his bear, he could ruin everything. Nodding, I say nothing else. The smaller the group of people who understand what this place is, the better. I’ll have to make sure he doesn’t tell anyone else.

“So, you’re a…” Tripp hesitates, looking to Chase for confirmation of what he clearly suspects.

Chase told me about the video, that his friends know what’s going on even though he knew they’d pretend they don’t.

“A bear shifter,” I finish for him, smiling as he scratches the back of his head.

“And he’s a…” Tripp waves in Chase’s direction.

“A wolf shifter… or he will be.” Given these men are setting up a business with Chase, have apparently seen him partially shift, and are likely going to become part of our extended family, there's no point in beating around the bush. “And he comes from royalty. So, he’s going to be powerful.”

Tripp snorts. “You’re a royal pain in the ass, that’s about it.” Getting serious, he looks around us and frowns. “This is surreal.”

Chase shakes his head, turning his attention to Van who has yet to comment. “Any questions?”

Looking straight at me, he narrows his eyes. “Not just yet. But I’m sure they’ll come to me.”

Chase ignores his frosty attitude, putting an arm around my shoulder and pulling me tight to him.
