Lexi sighed deeply and pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind. She couldn't let them bring her down. She needed to focus on the task at hand: creating the perfect wedding for her current client. Happy clients led to new clients, and that kept their business going.

As the conversation turned back to flower arrangements and color schemes, Lexi felt a renewed sense of energy. This was her element, her passion. Creating beauty and joy for others was what she was meant to do.

She looked over at her best friend and her fiancé, Lexi’s heart swelled with excitement and anticipation for the upcoming festivities. This wedding would mark the beginning of their happily ever after, and Lexi was elated she had a front-row seat.

“How many weeks are left?” Nolan asked, brushing Mia’s hair from her shoulder. “You girls have been talking about it for months.”

“I told you he would get bored,” Lexi teased, pointing her finger at the two of them and laughing. “Don’t you know there is no detail either one of us will obsess over?”

“It's how I know you girls are going to thrive.” Nolan kissed Mia's temple, beaming with pride. “I believe in you.”

“Oh, Daddy.” Mia blushed, shaking her curls and hiding her face in the crook of Nolan's neck.

“It's the truth, little butterfly. I'm so– so– proud of you. Both of you and all that you've accomplished in the past year. I know it isn't easy with me gone part of the season, you've been jug gling Penny.”

“ Hey now, my Pen Pen is just fine, mister.”

“Remind me again who was in labor for sixteen hours?” Mia snarked.

“We were.” She took a sip of her drink, her eyes widened with a memory. “Oh, did we forget whose Jimmy Choo's were ruined when your water broke? On my feet.”

“I'm never going to live it down, will I?”

“Oh, you're good. Keep baking and giving me squishy babies to love and spoil.”

The three of them laughed together and Lexi caught sight of Noah making his way toward them. It was hard to hide her smile. He wore dark jeans that looked painted on and a gray, button-down, collared shirt that showed off his muscles. She noticed it was the shirt she'd bought him for his birthday in January. Her first initial in the script was monogrammed on the collar.

With ease, Noah slid into the booth next to Lexi, reaching out to fist-bump Nolan across the table. Settling next to her, he draped one arm over her shoulder and leaned in to press his lips against her ear. “Hey, beautiful.”

“Hey,” she whispered, smiling into her glass and shifting to make room in the booth for him.

Noah wrapped his arm over her shoulder, tugging her into his side, and she soaked in his warmth. There was a hint of whiskey on his breath.

Kissing her temple, he leaned in close. “How's your leg?”

“Good, so good.” It was sore enough for her to feel it, but not uncomfortable to be a distraction.

Lexi leaned into Noah's side, feeling her heart race at his nearness. She took a sip of her drink, steadying her inner turmoil that wared with her need. Having him close did things to her, she stopped thinking when he was this close and smelling this good. As she lowered the glass, she felt Noah's gaze on her. Looking up, she met his intense stare and felt a tingle run down her spine.

Noah's lips curved into a smirk as he leaned in close. “You're absolutely gorgeous,” he murmured, his voice low and rough. The intensity of his stare made their company fade away until she was focused on him.

Lexi felt her cheeks heat at his words. She leaned closer to him, her hand resting on his thigh. She could feel the heat coming off his body, and couldn't resist the pull of his lips on hers.

Their kiss was fierce, passionate, and filled with want. Noah's hands moved up her back, his palms flush against her, pulling her in closer. She tangled her fingers in his hair, totally forgetting about anything around them. She moaned against his lips.

Noah pulled back, his eyes dark and full of fire. “Are you ready to play, sweet pea?” he asked, his voice rough with need.

Lexi nodded, feeling a thrill of excitement run through her. She flashed him a devilish grin, biting the corner of her bottom lip, and her eyes sparkled with mischief.

“Yes, sweet pea?”

“Noooothin’,” she said matter-of-factly, his eyes locked onto her mouth when she bit her lip. He lifted her chin with his thumb, and his brow lifted in inquisition.

He gripped her chin, pinching her jaw until her mouth opened. She giggled and stuck her tongue out to show off the temporary tattoo that was snuck around to some of the club subs.

Bite me.

The words curved around a drawn skull hand with the middle finger in the air. The sugar dye taunted him from her tongue, and his grin turned dark.
