“Le–”

“Noah, leave it there. Not now.” He opened his mouth to speak, she pressed her finger against his lips. “Noah.”

Not now.

Someday.

He was content to hold onto that. “Okay, c'mere. I want to hold you.”

“You promised me you’d eat,” Lexi reminded him gently. She rubbed his back and shoulders, wrapping her arms tightly around him as he pulled her against his chest. She curled into him and wrapped one leg over his hip to keep her fresh marking site out of the way. “A warm bed won’t distract me, mister.”

“Movie, nap, then food.” Noah sighed against her shoulder, pressing soft kisses to her collarbone and down the curve of her breast.

“Too late. I already ordered before I came in.” Lexi pressed a kiss to his head, inhaling the scent of his shampoo and shower-warmed skin.

“Damnit.”

“If you ignore the door, Bingo is only going to go nuts and pee everywhere.”

He groaned.

“Then Grizz is going to eat my new shoes. We like these shoes.”

“Fuck.” She was right. “You better have gotten something we can eat in bed.”

“My pussy holds no nutritional value.”

Nine

Auntie time before family dinner was Lexi’s favorite. Even more so in the summers when she kidnapped Zander for the afternoon filled with ‘ things we don’t tell mom about’ .

This week’s adventure was Geocache hunting until the summer rain derailed them to an indoor activity.

She never anticipated it would involve so much gear.

“Oh don’t give me that look. Don’t knock it til you try it.” Nolan handed her a pair of construction goggles and a pair of gloves. "I need someone to keep me company since Mia can't come in with the kids and you’re solo tonight."

"What are they going to do?" It felt weird to split up during family night, but she had no reason to make Nolan feel unwanted with something he wanted to do.

"They're up in the arcade with Sarah and Wes."

"That sounds an awful lot like a set up considering Mel is helping Mia with Penelope..."

"All the more reason for it not to look like one while we have some fun we don't have to clean up."

Lexi scrunched her face, taking the offered items and tucking them under her arm. Dragging her fingers through her hair she pulled it from her face and eyes, deft fingers twisted it into a knot. She pulled the two bands off her wrist securing it in place.

“How is this supposed to be fun?”

“Mass destruction. Fun is the bonus,” Nolan assured her, pulling the door open to the specifically designed room. It was filled with what would be junk anywhere else.

Old televisions, broken microwaves, jagged pieces of sheetrock, empty glass bottles and cans filled the room. But what made it special were the items designed to handle carnage; wooden planks, old tires, metal pipes and a slew of balls. Lexi stepped in with caution as though she was stepping into a sacred space.

Everywhere she looked something new was waiting to be discovered. She glanced back at Nolan as he smiled mischievously. Lexi knew that this experience was going to be one for the books.

“Are those...bats?” Lexi asked pointing to the two bats standing against the wall.

He nodded in confirmation and grabbed one for each of them. "Little bit of batting practice." He picked up a bottle and tossed it like a ball, aiming with the bat and landing a sure fire strike.
