“Do you still itch?”

“Yes, I can’t seem to satisfy it.”

Her soft whine went straight for his traitorous cock. His body disobeyed their current situation.

“Scratching will only make it worse. I’m sure I can find something in the first aid kit or I’ve got stuff at home.”

“Home?”

“Yeah, you think I’m letting you out of my sight after everything?”

Her eyes rounded and she audibly swallowed. Instead of a protest, she sighed and nodded. “Okay.”

Wes kept a firm grip on her, using one arm to stand. He grabbed a towel and dried her arms, face, and hair as best he could.

He sat her on the ledge, ignoring her fluttering hands in protest as he wrung her braid and wrapped it into a sloppy bun. Using a hair tie that was conveniently on his wrist.

Melody shuddered in her wet unitard grabbing the fuzzy blanket to warm herself.

“That’s not going to help. Let me see that.” Wes took the blanket from her, stepping back to let her stand. He grabbed the edges of the soft material and held it up to his chin. “Take the wet clothes off.” He tucked a corner under his chin to reach for a shirt Lexi had left them. He handed it to her and noticed—with a shake of his head—that the little meddler had brought one of his shirts for Mel to wear. “Put this on.”

“Okay.”

Wes raised the blanket and turned his head. “No peeking, I promise.”

Listening to her movements, he heard her clothes drop wetly against the tile. “Shirt’s on.”

Wes wrapped the blanket around her shoulders and rubbed the fabric against her arms, ridding her skin of the chill.

“My shoes are squishy.”

“You don’t need them.”

“You’re no–” Melody sighed. “Not going to take no for an answer.”

“Good girl, you’re learning.” He put a towel over his shoulder and lifted Mel into his arms. He soothingly rubbed his hand down her back while he made his way to his truck.

Tucking her into the passenger seat he buckled her in and handed her a bottle of water and a fruit bar he kept in the car.

Barefoot and shirtless he padded over to the driver's side of the truck. Pulling the back cab door open he grabbed a shirt and rifled for another pair of jeans.

Settling for basketball shorts he peeled off his wet pants, slinging them into the back of the cab, and wrapped the towel around his waist over the shorts.

By the time Wes pulled into his driveway, Melody was fast asleep. And suckling the collar of his shirt.

Without the heart to wake her, he bundled her in his arms and made his way into the house toward his bedroom.

As he pulled the covers over her, Melody’s hand grabbed at his shirt in her sleep. He looked down at her hand wrapped tightly in the fabric. Her fingers flexed and kneaded the material against his chest with her palm.

Wes looked at her sleeping form and didn’t have the heart to pull away, thinking it was innocent enough since she was sleeping.

Wes bundled Melody into his arms, rubbing the back of her skull to soothe her anxiety. Sleepily she wrapped a leg over his, and he curled up next to her, him over the blankets and her under. He buried his nose in her hair letting the sweet scent fill his senses.

Melody began to rustle in his arms, rubbing her legs together.

Wes crooned her to sleep, whispering in her hair, “Hush, babygirl, it's okay. Daddy's here." His heart beat rapidly at his comment but for some reason, it felt right. He closed his eyes, falling asleep with Melody in his arms.

Waking up at Wes’ house wasn’t out of the ordinary for Melody, but waking up in his bed was surprising, to say the least. She was tangled in the wine-colored bedspread and dressed in a tee that was four sizes too big.
