Melody pulled a bowl from the cupboard and filled it with cereal. After pouring the milk, she slid the bowl over to Sarah.

“Can I eat this outside with Oreo? I saw him out there.”

Wes came down the stairs in time to hear her question. “I bet Oreo would love to have the company this morning, peanut.”

“Thanks, Papa!” Sarah quickly jumped from the stool but carefully carried her bowl toward the porch. Wes opened the door for her and watched as she made her way down the stairs to her little picnic table that he built for her.

Mel walked over and smiled as she saw Oreo, the outside cat, come up to Sarah for some cuddles.

“She sure loves that cat. It’s been hanging around here for years.” Wes pulled Melody in tight as they stared down at her.

“I bet she would love an inside kitten.” Mel nudged Wes’ side with a chuckle.

“Heh, yeah maybe one day.”

Wes kissed her forehead before turning around to head to the kitchen.

“How about some coffee, buttercup?”

“Mmm, that would be great.” Mel folded her arms around herself as she continued to watch Sarah.

She didn’t notice Wes walking up behind her because she was stuck in her mind, thinking about so many things at once.

“Here’s your coffee just how you like it.” Mel smiled up at him. He picked up small details about her that no one else ever seemed to notice. Jason didn’t even know how she took her coffee and they were together for three years.

“Thank you.” She took a sip, closing her eyes as the sweetness invaded her mouth. “It’s perfect.” Mel laid her head on Wes’ chest as they stood in silence, enjoying the views of the forest behind the house.

“What’s going on in that pretty little head of yours? I can see your wheels turning, baby girl.”

She nibbled at her lip thinking of exactly what she wanted to say. “Well, besides a sore butt.”

“Hmm.”

“I-uh, gosh, I woke up with so many emotions this morning.” Mel cast her eyes down at the mug in her hands.

Wes led her over to a chair on the porch, taking his seat and pulling her onto his lap.

“Talk to me, baby.” He took her mug and placed it on the railing in front of them.

Melody looked up at his brown eyes. She could see the love that was shown through them. Her belly fluttered, but it gave her the confidence she needed.

She placed her hands on his chest, feeling the beat of his heart.

“You have shown and taught me things about myself that I never would have realized without you,” she paused to collect her thoughts. “You have brought colors into my life that I never knew existed.”

Wes opened his mouth to speak but Mel put her finger up to his lips.

“I have more I need to say before you go, please.” He nodded for her to continue. Mel looked back over the horizon, gathering her strength. Glancing back she took Wes’ hand in hers.Taking a deep breath, she began again, “I want to be worthy of your love. Being loved by you is the most amazing feeling. I sometimes forget to breathe when you look at me. I know, I know we have Sarah to consider. But Wes?” she paused, “Wes, I’m all in. I’m in this. With you. For you. Forever.”

“Oh, buttercup.”

“Being with you is like skydiving. I wanna be enough. I never thought I'd ever…” she squeezed his hand. “I'm scared. I'm scared that somehow I won't be enough. Girlfriend, submissive, friend...that I'm going to fu–ork it all to hell. But being scared with you doesn't make me want to run away. I want to weather it all with you.” Mel looked into his eyes as he soaked her in as well.

“None of it matters because all I want is you, Melody. You and Sarah are all I need, I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear before and I promise to make it up to you. If you want me, I’m yours.”

“I want you. I’ve wanted you since you showed up at Mia’s wanting to bring Sarah’s class cupcakes because you knew if Sarah was nervous starting school so would the other kids.” Melody wrinkled her nose happily at the memory.

“I’va confession on that.” Wes scrubbed the back of his neck. “I wanted a glimpse of you.” The way his cheeks flushed was endearing. “I love the way you are with the kids when nobody’s looking. You light up in your element.”
