"Spill," Lily demanded playfully.

I paused for dramatic effect, making a show of checking for potential eavesdroppers. The sleeping seniors still snoozed. I took a deep breath and blurted out, "Cole and I kissed."

"WHAT?!" she shrieked, slamming her palms on the table and rattling my coffee cup.

"Shh!" I hissed, giggling. "Keep your voice down!"

"I knew something was going to happen between you two. I could tell. I didn't think it would happen this quickly, though. You don't waste any time, do you?"

"It wasn't my idea!"

"Oh, so you just accidentally fell onto his lips?"

I recounted the entire story—emphasizing just how spontaneous and unplanned it had all been.

"Wow," Lily breathed, shaking her head slightly. "And? How was it?"

"Amazing," I admitted, cheeks flushing at the memory. "But also annoying. I really think Cole was upset after. He seemed annoyed that he'd lost control."

Lily scoffed, rolling her eyes. "He was probably annoyed that he didn't lose more control."

"No chance."

"So, did you talk about it?"

"Not really. He apologized and I left."

"So . . . you don't know that he regretted it."

"It was written all over his face, Lils. He looked horrified."

"You've got to talk about it."

"No!"

"Of course you do."

"This isn't some high school drama, Lily. Cole's a grown man with—"

"Damn straight he is."

"Lily! I'm serious. He's got a family, responsibilities—"

"A libido—"

"He doesn't want a brat like me rolling in and upsetting the rhythm of his life."

"Well, if he’s so grown-up and responsible, he needs to talk with you about what happened. And if you want to prove you’re not just some ‘brat’ you need to be the one to initiate it.” She paused. “And by the way, you’re not a brat. Not at all. You’re wonderful and talented and gorgeous and if he seriously doesn’t get that then I’ll rip off his— Ida! Our breakfast is here! Lovely.”

I looked up at Ida, feeling my cheeks redden. “Thanks, Ida,” I said sheepishly. “Looks delicious.”

It really did look good—a towering stack of fluffy blueberry pancakes for Lily, and a hearty veggie omelet for me. I was pleased with my healthy choice but couldn't help eyeing Lily's plate enviously.

"Enjoy, ladies," Ida said with a smile, pouring us a coffee each.

The second Ida was out of earshot, Lily pounced. "So, do you want to jump Cole's bones or not?"

My eyes widened. "That is not the point."
