His cock nudged my entrance but he paused. “Promise not to give up on me.”

I blinked up at him and saw a vulnerability in his eyes that settled in the middle of my chest. I cupped his face and nodded. “I promise.”

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath and when he opened them again, he held my gaze while thrusting into me. Covering my mouth with his before I could cry out, he rested his weight on top of me and wrapped his arms around me, holding me tight while rocking in and out of my sex.

Jake moved slowly, driving us both higher and higher. His mouth never left mine. He kissed me until I was breathless and we both took gasping breaths before coming together again. I wrapped my body around his and gave him everything that I had. His thrusts became deeper, harder, but never faster. He drove into me at his own pace, took his time destroying me.

Pulling his lips from mine, he looked into my eyes and I saw so much promise in his gaze, promise to me. “Come with me, angel. I want to feel you come around me.”

Words danced across my tongue, words I didn’t think it was time for so I bit them back and pulled his mouth back to mine. I came apart under him as he came in me and we panted into each other’s mouths while trying our best to stay silent. Before he collapsed on top of me completely, he rolled us over and held me to his chest in a tight embrace.

I pressed my open mouth to his neck and let out a tired laugh. “I think I should say thank you. That was…intense.”

He kissed the top of my head. “One of these days I’m going to sink into this bed, knowing our kids are happily asleep down the hall, and I’m going to sleep with you in my arms for about ten hours.”

Smiling, I lifted my face to look at him. “That sounds really amazing.”

“Thank you for giving me another chance, angel. It killed me today to know that I was the reason you were unhappy.” He stroked the hair out of my face and then ran his thumb over my eyebrow and down my cheek. “If you’ll let me, I’ll spend the rest of my life taking care of you and making sure you’re happy, Fiona.”

I opened my mouth and once again those words played at the tip of my tongue. I held his gaze and watched him give me a knowing smile, like he could read my mind. Chuckling, I shook my head and buried my face in his neck again. “I think you’re making me crazy.”

“Yeah, well, you’re making me crazy, too.” He laughed out loud when my head snapped up to see his face. “Yeah. Me, too, angel.”

***Fiona***

Idialed Ryder’s number and waited for him to answer as I watched Avery playing with chalk on the sidewalk. After barely one whole ring, he answered, sounding out of breath. I hadn’t been ready for him to answer so fast so I was caught off guard and stammered out a hello.

“You called me back.” His voice held a tinge of frustration.

“I called you back.” I took a deep breath. “I’m sorry for not answering your calls before. I was mortified. I also left feeling like maybe there was something still there with you and your ex, so I got scared.”

“There’s nothing there, Fiona. I would’ve told you that immediately if you’d answered any one of my calls.” The sound of metal slamming against metal filled the background on his end. I instantly recognized the sound of a gym and pictured him lifting weights. He was still focused on the reason I’d called, though. “You didn’t give me a chance to explain anything. You shut me out. Worse, you shut me out while still seeing Jake and Sebastian.”

“I’m sorry for that. Until I met Jake’s ex-wife, I didn’t know people like your ex really existed so I was freaked out. I should’ve talked to you. I wanted to.” I glanced back at Avery to make sure he was still focused on his chalk. “I miss you.”

Ryder let out a breathy laugh. “You’re not as sweet as we think you are, are you? What are you thinking about right now that just made your voice go all husky?”

I blushed but there was no one watching to see it so I told him the truth. “You. Working out.”

He groaned. “You don’t play fair, angel.”

“Forgive me?” I hated knowing I’d upset him.

“There’s nothing to forgive, Fiona. I get why you were freaked out. Just talk to me from now on. Okay?” He sounded like the Ryder I knew again. “You forgive me for having a demon for an ex-wife?”

“Depends.”

“On?”

I smiled. “Can I see you?”

“You want me to come over? I can-”

“No, I want to see you right now. I’m imagining you shirtless and sweaty and I need to see it.” I heard his low growl and felt my stomach clench with need. “If you sent me other pictures, they wouldn’t be unsolicited.”

“Are you asking me for a dick pic right now, angel? Such a sweet face with such a dirty mind.” He tsked at me. “Naughty girl. I-”
